Suggest you read insideu June 28, 2007 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
Modern day fantasy with descriptive title, enthusiastic reviews, forward by Neil Gaimon. If this is a genre you enjoy, what's not to like?
I bought this book for all these reasons but despite trying couldn't get past the first 30 pages. I found the writing style inconsistent and incoherent to the point I couldn't enjoy the story.
You might love this book as the other reviewers clearly have done, but I suggest you try sampling a couple of pages before you do.
The fairies are abroad June 17, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
The rock n roll Scottish thistle fairies, Heather and Morag, are on the run.
Their disrepute brings them to New York, New York!
Beauty, romance, rock n roll, obscure disease, warring factions, and, yes, even the ghost of punk legend Johnny Thunders grace this fast-moving tale.
Martin Millar's unique ability to bring fantasy slam bang together with harsh reality truly shines.
Why can I only give it five stars? August 21, 2006 4 out of 8 found this review helpful
Martin Millar is a fantastic author, who deserves to be on everybody's bookshelves. I can't believe that I can't get hold of his books - people have borrowed my old ones and I haven't got them back so I'm having to try to buy them again. Martin Millar is so readable and original - try his books. I also love Alby Starvation, Melody Paradise and Lux the Poet. Maybe his books are unavailable because everybody buys them up as soon as they become available!? Just give me the chance!
Masterpiece! February 28, 2006 16 out of 17 found this review helpful
This is a fantastic book that should never have been allowed to go out of print. The two main fairies are banished from Scotland and end up in New York where they cause chaos by declaring open warfare amongst the fairy community there.Sex, drugs and anarchy reign - definitely not your average fairy tale! A masterpiece from Martin Millar, don't miss this chance of buying a copy.
Should never have been allowed to go out of print October 22, 2004 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
This is an excellent book - one of my favourites. It is a crime that it has been allowed to go out of print and I urge you to buy a copy if you can get your hands on one. Be prepared to be introduced to a very different kind of fairy to the ones you usually hear stories about. These fairies enjoy drinking, eating magic mushrooms and passing out but they still manage to help a couple of humans to get their lives together along the way.
