Cecelia Ahern's debut novel, PS, I Love You, follows the engaging, witty and occasionally sappy reawakening of Holly, a young Irish widow who must put her life back together after she loses her husband Gerry to a brain tumour. Ahern, the twentysomething daughter of Ireland's Prime Minister, has discovered a clever and original twist to the Moving On After Death concept made famous by novelists and screenwriters alike--Gerry has left Holly a series of letters designed to help her face the year ahead and carry on with her life. As the novel takes readers through the seasons (and through Gerry's monthly directives), we watch as Holly finds a new job, takes a holiday to Spain with her girlfriends, and sorts through her beloved husband's belongings. Accompanying Holly throughout the healing process is a cast of friends and family members who add as much to the novel's success as Holly's own tale of survival. In fact, it is these supporting characters' mini-dramas that make PS, I Love You more than just another superficial tearjerker with the obligatory episode at a karaoke bar. Ahern shows real talent for capturing the essence of an interaction between friends and foes alike; even if Holly's circle of friends does resemble the gang from Bridget Jones a bit too neatly to ignore (her best friend is even called Sharon). While her style can be at times repetitive and her delivery is occasionally amateurish, Ahern deserves credit for a spirited first effort.  A tear Jerker! July 22, 2008
A lovely story about...love! Brought tears to my eyes throughout! Although the film isn't very good but the book is!

As i saw the film the book was based on, I loved the story immediately. I claim it to by one of my favorite movies!
After seeing it I looked for the film online to buy it and came across the book. I decided to buy it because I loved the movie and because I hadn't read anything in a while. Atually I mostly read childens books before because I'm 15 now and I found it hard finding something to read.
As soon as I started the book I couldn't put it down. Normally I would be sitting infront of the T.V. As it was the holidays I had lots of time to read it and finished it in 3 days and it's left me wanting more!
I found the book eye opening because now I have the genre of books that I would like to read now.
The story gave me a lot of emotion as I have been in holly's situation before and I wouldn't know I what it feels like to loose someone that is close to you.
I found it enjoyable and easy to read. I also felt proud of myself for finding this amazing book!

I am at a loss to understand how this book has received the praise it has and such a huge advance for it's author. The basic idea of the book is a great one. The greatness ends there. The writing is absolutely abysmal. No money could convince me to re-read it.
Absolutely dreadful June 16, 2008
I'm mystified as to why this badly written book became a best seller. The dull and plodding prose would appear to have been written by a twelve year old with absolutely no insight into grief and bereavement. Trite, boring and unbelievable characters inhabit a poorly plotted story. Exceptionally bad.
