1 out of 5 stars Dreadful drivel.   June 15, 2008

I'm the sort of person who has mild palpitations if I've nothing available to read, but even I couldn't finish this.
Never have I come across so many self-pitying, whingeing, characters, all in one book. The smug, yet pathetic 'heroine' needs a slap, her feeble, unengaging child needs a week on the naughty step, and the rest of the characters are shallow and un-likeable.
The plot is both predictable and unlikely.
I'm miffed I wasted my money on a book I couldn't finish, and even more miffed that a publisher should foist this tosh on an unsuspecting public.
If you think you've got a book in you; go for it. If Julia Williams can get this rubbish published, we can all do it!

I can only assume that the writers of the previous reviews were friends of the author as this book is simply dreadful.

I really enjoyed this book and was sorry to finish it as I got quite attached to the characters in it.It is just the right sort of book to read during the winter months as the writing makes you feel warm inside.

This is one of the best books I have read in a long time! From the first page I was hooked, and felt that I really got to know the characters,,,, My only complaint is that this s julia Williams first book and she has left me wanting more!!!!!
If you only read one book this year READ THIS ONE!!!!

i promised myself in 2008 i would read some different authors books instead of sticking to the usual ones. I am please i did as this was the first one i picked from the shelf. From page one the author had me wanting to read more, when usually it takes me at least to page 50 to get into a book. i would say this was a very easy read, you could feel the characters emotions and wanted to be part of their world. I could picture myself wellies and all down the allotments with them drinking tea. Once you have read this book you will long for a friend like Harry everyone needs a Harry in their lives. I noticed that this was the authors first novel and i must congratulate her, and long for the next one. Keep them coming! And to those of you reading this review stop wasting time get out and buy it now!
