THIS BOOK IS OBSOLETE January 10, 2008 DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK. The immigration test hasn't been based on this material since September 2007. It shouldn't even be on sale anymore.
Excellent book, covers everything thats needed for the test June 1, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I disagree with the previous reviewer that this book is useless for test. The book is currently on sale because the revised rules allow you the option to appear for the old edition test until the 1st of july 2007. Any new tests after this date will have to be goverened by 2nd edition or new syllabus. The test centre may not recommend this book only because this is not a Home office offical guide. However this book elliminates the need to buy the offical guide as it covers all the essential material needed for this version of the test.
Out of date May 31, 2007 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
Why is this still on sale when it only applies to the "old" version of the test, replaced in April 07? Furthermore when calling to book a test I was asked what source material we were using and they explicitly said that we shouldn't rely on this book, only the Home Office version is good enough especially as the pass mark is 75% and most native britons would fail without having read the book (I agree, I'm a native, test is for wife, I took a dummy test and failed - and I'm no dummy). The booking advisor offered the opinion that the publishers were being less than honest with the public by producing material that falls short of the Home Office guide and may result in failing the test and a need to re-sit - at 34 a time.
Not Official Material May 31, 2007 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this booking thinking it was the official material. My mistake as I didn't read the review....but if you want to be 100% sure you have the right material get the book with the Home Office seal on it. However, I took my test today and passed it in about 10 minutes.
All you need - but be quick before old test is phased out April 18, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
IMPORTANT NOTE: This book includes chapters 2,3 and 4 as printed in the 2004 official version. The official version has since been revised (2007). When I sat the test this week they offered the choice of either old or new versions. I don't know how long this will apply though (worth checking this when you book your test).
Assuming you are sitting the old version of the test... this is all you need. I'm a very careful shopper and was completely happy with this purchase. I read the chapters twice (which took about 3 hours each time) and ran through the 10 practice tests twice. I sat the actual test this week and passed with confidence.
Aside from being cheaper it is also very well structured (the practice tests at the back are extremely good indeed).
