Amazon.co.uk Review Supernatural, like so many successful shows before it, starts with a simple concept. When their father goes missing, two brothers--Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Sam (Jared Padalecki) Winchester--head off across the country to try and find him. But their journey isn't easy, especially when you consider the assortment of spirits and nightmarish creatures that stand in their path.On paper, that sounds a derivative mix of many shows that have gone before it. And to some extent, that's what Supernatural is, yet its mix is nonetheless compelling. What lifts it above the norm is the quality both of the writing, and crucially, the direction of the show. There are moments that are spooky, and some that are downright scary, with plenty of suspense linking the two. And while the 22 episodes have their fair share of peaks and troughs, Supernatural has an edge about it that easily carries it through its slower points. At the heart of the show, ironic considering the number of other programmes it tips its hat to, is a desire to do things its own way, and for that reason, come Supernatural's maiden season finale, it leaves a real thirst for more episodes. Fortunately, the second season is already in the can, and we suspect it'll continue to grow the number of fans that Supernatural is rightly earning for itself. --Jon Foster

Exciting Series, Well thought out June 12, 2008 I first heard about Supernatural after seeing a clip preview on Freeview after a movie (I dont watch much TV, too many reality shows). I watched an episode and was hooked. I love it. Sam and Dean are 2 really likable characters and its far better acted than charmed or ghost whisperer.
The 2 guys are demon, witch and ghost hunters searching the length and breadth of america in seach of their missing father, but in each episode get caught up in a small town and its hauntings, which all seem to involve their father in some way.
Ive only watch Pt 1 of Season 1, but its really well done and in some parts its genuinely gripping and it has some grouesome scarey parts, but not as terrifying as it claims. Unlike Charmed and Ghost Whisperer, its a bit more "earthy" in its production and not so glossy and pollished perfect as the others, which gives it a more real feeling and, for once, you actually come away and feel like youve watched something decent, instead of the "that was a bit silly", or "is that it", or "Why didnt they do that or try this" kind of feeling, which can leave the whole thing a bit hollow and pointless, but Supernatural steers clear of that.
So, why only 4 stars, well the picture seems a little dark on my DVDs. Ive tried it on my PC and my DVD player, I dont know if they used filters when they filmed it but the night scenes look a bit too dark for me, if anyone else has found this can you drop me a comment and let me know.
I would recommend it to anyone who likes suspense TV drama with a bit of edge. Its not the best thing Ive ever seen, but its acted and produced well and everyone on set looks like theyre actually serious and want to do a good job, which is rare.
entertaining, frigthing, funny and moving. March 24, 2008 Four words to describe a well created tv show.
The two brothers Dean and Sam looks just like any other brothers, with their constant arguments and fights, but there is more to it. This is a show that makes you laugh, jump up from your couch and shed a tear. There is something about how Jared Padalecki(Sam) and Jensen Ackles(Dean) act together. They might as well be brothers and best friends in real life. Get ready for a tv show you're going to love. I highly recommend this product.
Helps to fill that Buffy-shaped hole February 25, 2008 Supernatural is a fun, witty, well acted paranormal drama series aimed squarely at generations X and Y. The protagonist Winchester brothers are easy on the eye and do well in the lighthearted banter stakes. Even though the plots are obviously based on urban legends, and it doesn't quite have the depth of some of its predecessors, Supernatural will certainly help fill the hole that Buffy and Angel left when they got canceled. Season 3 is currently showing in the USA, so I hope it hasn't suffered an untimely demise thanks to the recent writers strike.
One of the best shows around! January 27, 2008 Supernatural is a must see show. The cast , the storylines, all of it is fantastic. I would highly recommend it!! If you havent bought it yet, it should definitely be on your wish list! Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles are very believable as brothers and work fantastically along side each other. HIGHLY RECOMMENED SHOW!!! If i had to critisise one thing though it would be that the UK region 2 disks have none of the special features like the Region 1 disks do.
The Best Show of This Kind Since X-Files! January 24, 2008 As you've probably figured out, I was a huge fan of the X-Files. That show had everything a person like me could ever as for, and I was a little sad when the show finally ended all those years ago. Then Supernatural comes along. A totally different show, yet not. I won't go through the story, as you most likely already know it. Season one is a good start for the show, and it proved immensely successful the world over, thanks for its continuous innovative episodes, and the chemistry between Jensen Ackles (Dean) and Jared Padalecki (Sam). Their relationship never comes off fake or dishonest, and they are extremely convincing as the Wincester brothers. Bottomline; if you like show like the X-Files, Supernatural is right up your alley. So, sit back and take with the Wincester on a journey to kill as many "evil sons-of-bitches" as possible.
Favorite episodes: "Scarecrow", "Benders", "Home", "Phantom Traveler", "Hell House" and the season finale: "Salvation" and "Devil's Trap".
