First of all the film is excellent Ive seen it before which made me purchase the DVD - BUT - I got the DVD in the post and didnt watch it for a while, opened it up - the disk says spirited away but the film on the disk is actually an old EMI film called 'Bad Boys'! Weird.

that other haven't. ? This is just the most magical film it introduced me to another side of anime, as before i was only really interested in the ninja scroll, akira etc type. This film has been a joy to share with other's, and is one of those things that connects you to people, ie at parties you hear someone mention it and its like "Amagad!! best film ever!" "yeah i know <3<3" and you have made a new friend. haha.
so sbsolutely, definately, without doubt, u should buy this!
Amazing. March 30, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
One of the finest animated movies ever made, Miyazaki's 'Spirited Away' is a true one of a kind. A little girl 'Chihiro' strays into an Alice in Wonderland like ghost town, and must become part of this strange community if she is to save her parents. As she slowly changes from moaning brat to head-strong young lady, we watch completely enraptured.
But Spirited Away's true genius lies in the side characters, so brilliant they deserve their own movies. Were talking a huge baby with temper issues, a frog in a kimono, and my favourite, three bodyless heads that roll aroung the floor grunting to themselves. Priceless.
Hayao Miyazaki is often referred to as the 'Japanese Walt Disney'. Well my opinion is that this equals anything Disney ever came up with, if not bettering it. With simply beautiful music, wonderful animation and a tear jerkingly triumphant climax, most other animated movies of the past few years seem saggy and pretentious compared to this.
As all the preceding reviews will tell you, I can't imagine how anyone could dislike this film. In my opinion 'Spirited Away' is good for the soul, the highest recommendation I can give.
Take the hint and buy this film today.
A fairytale theme seen through fresh eyes March 6, 2008 The theme of Spirited Away is the timeless one of a good and courageous child who is put to many tests and subjected to terrible ordeals. If she can overcome her fear, resist temptation, not give in to greed and remain pure and loving, she will survive and emerge unscathed. The way to purposeful adulthood is then open to her. Chihiro, the central character of Spirited Away, is supported, like many another fairytale hero, by helpful beings and animals of one kind and another, some appearing in the most unpromising guises. She accepts all comers, even the most freakish, unless they prove unworthy of her trust.
An age-old theme, given fresh new treatment by Hayao Miyazaki, whose animation creates a fascinating world that is sometimes beautiful, sometimes nauseating, sometimes bizarre. This, coupled with a dreamy soundtrack and a setting that combines dream, nightmare and a quirky oriental charm, makes for an animated film that is hard to forget.
