There's no getting around it: there was simply no better summer blockbuster in 2007 than the astonishing The Bourne Ultimatum. It's a film that defies expectations in many ways. Firstly, it's a third entry in a trilogy that by some distance in the best in an already-compelling franchise. Secondly, whenThe Bourne Ultimatum kickstarts with a ferocious energy and pace, you sit there and rightly expect it not to keep the momentum going. But it does. And does it astonishingly well. Just witness the breathless sequence through Waterloo Station, convince yourself that the film has peaked then, then go and watch them top it later on in the movie. The film itself has many trump cards, not least its leading man. Matt Damon fits the character of reluctant lead Jason Bourne perfectly, but the trick is to give him some excellent supporting players to work against. Thus, The Bourne Ultimatum also stars the excellent pair of David Straitharn and a returning Joan Allen, along with Albert Finney, Paddy Considine and Julia Stiles too. But the hidden hero of The Bourne Ultimatum is director Paul Greengrass. Arguably one of the most interesting and talented directors working today (he was rightly Oscar-nominated for his haunting United 93), Greengrass has fashioned a genuinely thrilling action thriller, that bursts with an energy and relentlessness that you simply have no right to expect. That he also managed to wrap up the story Jason Bourne's quest for his identity in the midst of it is all the more astonishing. A terrific end to an already-impressive trilogy, there's little else ot say about The Bourne Ultimatum, which is simply a near flawless piece of blockbuster entertainment. Out of breath having just watched this film July 19, 2008
Loved the first 2 Bourne films. This film has even more action, but less of a 'story' and less development of the main characters. If I am to be critical the action photography is TOO fast, so you cannot fully absorb and enjoy what are some great sequences. Please SLOW down the action when Bourne 4 appears! Was on the edge of my seat watching this film, which is without doubt one of the best films of 2007.
Smart action thriller July 16, 2008
The Bourne Ultimatum is a tightly plotted and fast paced action thriller. The character Jason Bourne continues to develop and unfold in spite of this being the 3rd film in the series. I felt that this was a vast improvement on the 2nd film which was a little hard to follow in places. If this film has one irritation it is the flashy camerwork which at times makes the action hard to follow, and is a little over-stylized unneccessarily.
However, the film never feels like it's starting to drag at any point and the performances are all great. The plot is full of clever twists and reveals to, so there's no time for your brain to switch off. A very impressive 3rd part of the series.

It's unusual these days for the third film in a franchise to surpass expectations but this certainly did and could easily claim the title of "Film of 2007". The action is intense, the story enthralling and the acting top-shelf. It constantly amazes me how films like this don't get Academy recognitions, still.
Looking forward to Bourne 4!

I loved the first Bourne film.But not this one.The storyline has got more ridiculous and the stunts plain silly as the producers try to make the action better.The dvd box says the Bourne Ultimatum is better than James Bond.The last bond film - casino royale - had better ( more dramatic) stunts and a more convincing storyline with superior acting and was one of the best action films ever made.Bourne Ultimatum isn't Bond.It isn't even Bourne.That had subtlety, credibility,unpredictability, an original storyline and original music,and likeable characters that had the chance to act properly.In Bourne Ultimatum the CIA computer operatives and their computer screens get so much airtime that the machines may as well be actors.The two main female characters gave the Bourne Ultimatum a little class (Stiles has style) and stopped a production that is heartless in every sense of the word from being souless too.The locations were nice to look at - but you had to look at them quick because this film moves at such a high pace.The producers of this film need to hire a copy of the Bourne Identity, study it and see where they went wrong from then on.There are plenty of bonus features showing how particular scenes were made which make for interesting viewing.

I'm sorry I do not understand what the big deal is with this silly franchise. Matt Damon's acting consists of one expression: the "quick! I need to find a toilet before I soil my pants!" look. It is a load of over-rated, cliched dross. It was funny reading Matt ridicule the Bond franchise, saying in a laughably snootily manner, that all the cliches you find in Bond you wouldn't find in the Bourne franchise. What a joke. The difference, dear Mr Damon, is that Bond never takes himself too seriously. The winks at the camera and cheeky one-liners give you a clue. However, I'm sure when Matt Damon goes home every evening, he really does think he's a spy.
