Editorial Reviews:

Stunning computer-generated special effects are the main selling point of Dragon Wars, a Korean-made fantasy about ancient monsters wreaking havoc in modern Los Angeles. The complex plot, based on legend, pits an evil serpent and its demonic army against a young woman (Amanda Brooks) who is the reincarnation of a young woman imbued with the heaven-sent power to transform the creature into an all-powerful dragon. Jason Behr (The Grudge) is the reporter who discovers that he too is a reincarnated warrior bound to prevent Brooks and her power from falling into the wrong hands. The elaborate premise isn't helped by the script, which delivers absurd dialogue and situations with child-like naivete. Thankfully, the presence of Robert Forster (as another reincarnated hero) and solid actors like Elizabeth Pena, Craig Robinson and Chris Mulkey, help smooth over the frequent moments of unintentional humour. But this won't matter much to fantasy fans and (especially) younger viewers, who will tune in for the film's riot of special effects. Director Shim Hyung-rae and his talented team offer scene after scene of exceptional CGI creations, most notably an aerial dogfight between helicopters and winged lizards in the skies above downtown L.A., and a climactic battle which makes good on the title's promise. The DVD includes a making-of featurette which outlines Shim's four-year struggle to complete the project, as well as storyboard galleries and an animatics display. -- Paul Gaita

1 out of 5 stars simply terrible!   July 21, 2008
after enjoying 'reign of fire' (another dragon movie) i hoped this might also be great. however it really isnt. bad cgi effects, storyline, and worse acting means there really is nothing to redeem this movie. dont buy it you will be disappointed.

1 out of 5 stars wonderfull, brilliant, top marks...if it was made by a group of 14 year olds for their drama project.   July 21, 2008
I own alot of DVD's, I like to think I have a nice collection growing, and soon I will buy a fancy rack, and display them in my living room. Amoung them are alot of films that I loved, some that i didn't, but all that I feel will sit quite nicely in the rack. All except Dragon Wars. For the first time, i'm ashamed to have spent my money on a DVD. And I have bought some real shockers in the past, but this one tops the lot.

I cannot describe the look of comical bemusment on all of our faces after sitting through this film. My friends have now lost faith in me after I said fifteen minutes in, in responce to "switch this off mate, its rubbish", my reply was, "bear with it, i reckon it will get better".........It didn't.

This film was so bad, it was funny. The only reason it was watchable, was because of the amount of stupid comments we were making the whole way through about the amount of absurdities this film was offering. At the beginning, we had to persuade a mate to watch it, and we did this by saying, Its called Dragon Wars, its about Dragons, in a war...what more could you want for some mindless entertainment. Well, we didn't even get the Dragons warring, as it was just one big snake chasing around a couple of characters that, to my dismay, kept escaping. At the end, we were treated to a fight between two "Dragons", but one of them sprouted little legs halfway through, which gave him the upper hand because it enabled him to fly...yes thats right, his legs gave him the gift of flight.

I'm sorry if i spoiled the ending there, but by this point, you most certainly will not care. I will not make too much of a fuss about the plot...holes...as many a great film have been based around a weak plot, nor will i talk to great depth about the kindergarten acting involved in this $75million production, (the acting/stunts/fighting reminded me of a long episode of Power Rangers). I will not even talk about special effects, because I'm glad they went back to the good old days of using model cars in some situations, then speeding up the film to give the mind blowing illusion of, well speed. I was overcome with nostalgia.

What i cannot get my head around, is that the front cover of the says something silly like "international blockbuster"...??? I new nothing of this film untill i saw it on amazon. I struggle to think who actually went to the cinema to see this film, because i don't recall it being out. Maybe they should have put something like, "so good, it went straight to DVD" on the cover.

To conclude, i suggest you should wait a while before you buy, certainly wait until you know your sense of humour is such that you will enjoy this film for what it is. A comedy. And if you let your kids watch it, tell them not to be scared, the crazy people that made this film aren't hiding under their bed.

5 out of 5 stars Loved this!   July 18, 2008
A fantastic action film.I really loved watching this. Its fast paced throughout, and the only thing I'd be scared off,is if this Korean legend is true! Fortunately, that would seem highly unlikely!A man has to protect a young woman from a massive snake, hellbent on bumping her off.Once this dastardly deed has been accomplished, the snake can turn itself into an almighty dragon, and no doubt, its bad news for us mere mortals! Our hero doesn't realise at first, that he and the damsel in distress, have been riencarnated in the modern day.The film starts back in time, when we see the two enjoying their peaceful lives, before the bad guys come along to capture the girl for the snake's deadly ambitions!I'll leave it there for you to find out the rest, but I found it hugely entertaining.Enjoy.

1 out of 5 stars My own fault   July 12, 2008
I read the reviews and bought it anyway! Serves me right. Still, at least I have something for the next bring and buy sale!

1 out of 5 stars Will someone stop the pain!!!   July 11, 2008
This is one of the worst films I've ever seen.....do yourself a huge favour and avoid it at all costs.

I'm a huge movie fan and this only servers up a thought of the rhyming slag "Brad Pitt".
