Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.co.uk Review
If you're looking for signs that the modern-day Disney has lost neither its touch nor its savvy nature, then there's evidence in abundance in the smart modern-day fairy tale Enchanted. Bookended by the kind of old-style animation the studio is rightly famed for, the main, live action segment of the film finds Amy Adams' Giselle--an archetypal Disney princess in pretty much every sense--dropped slap bang into the middle of modern day New York.

What follows is ingenious fun, as Giselle walks round very much as a fish out of water, followed quickly by James Marsden's prince who attempts to come to the rescue. Thing is, modern day New York and old style princesses don't really mix, and Enchanted studiously mines the comedy of the scenario, thanks to a smart and witty script.

What also lifts Enchanted though are the delightful tips of the hat to classics of Disney old. And we're not just talking the show-stopping numbers: there are references to the likes of Beauty and the Beast, Snow White and Sleeping Beauty to be found here, and a star-making performance from Adams powering the whole film forward.

One of the very best family movies of 2007, Enchanted does occasionally stumble through the odd twee moment (and it could really use a villain with more screen time than Susan Sarandon's wicked stepmother gets), but that can't hide the fact that it's terrific fun, lavishly made and, at its best, quite brilliant. A modern day family classic, and great to see Disney once again delivering the kind of entertainment it excels at. --Simon Brew

5 out of 5 stars Lovely film!   June 15, 2008

My family and I weren't too sure what to expect when we sat down to watch this. My eleven-year-old son actually said, 'It's not going to be all mushy, is it?' Well, there's a couple of kisses, but nothing that could annoy the boys in the family, some real laugh-out-loud moments, an over-the-top prince who is just great, a wicked queen, a likeable heroine, and a hero who is absolutely yummy. If you haven't seen this film, you're in for a treat. Great entertainment, and my twins both said, 'Can we watch it again?' and there's no higher praise than that!

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic family fun   June 5, 2008

The movie is quite simply, the best Family movie in the past few years. From the beginning, the movie sucks you in with narration from a Disney Legend. You fall in love with the characters right away and it's quite simply a return to the greatness that Disney can deliver. The cast of Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey, James Marsden and Timothy Spall is impeccable and each plays their part to pure perfection. Rounding out the cast is Susan Sarandon who is part Evil Queen, part Maleficent and pure evil (in the best possible Disney sense). The music and the original songs are the best to come out of Disney in quite a while and remind us of the greatness that was when such classics as Cinderella and Snow White first graced our screens.

The story is part animation, part live action and it's a combination that Disney have managed to pull off to perfection and which appeals to children and adults alike. Of course, it wouldn't be Disney without a few scene-stealing animals to liven things up. This part made me cringe as I can't stand rodents but the kids howled with laughter. Everything works here to bring a wonderful family-friendly story to life. Complete with its pop-up book bookends, Enchanted is truly magical. Simply put Disney came through with this one. So, if you are looking for a way to spend a couple of hours with the whole family, Enchanted is definitely a great way to go.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful Film - brings a smile to your face   June 3, 2008

This is a wonderful film - well done Disney! A modern day Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty all wrapped up in one. And it's soooo cheesy being a musical - I dare anyone not to smile at the singing in the park scene. Loved it!

4 out of 5 stars Disney animation comes to life   May 19, 2008

Disney fantasy comes alive (literally) in this animated masterpiece that transforms into a real-life movie with some added CGI cuties. This is all in all a typical Disney movie; the feel, the sound, the songs and the plot. But what makes this heart filled comedy special is the contrast between the happy sweet life of a fairy tale story and the reality of life in the city of New York.

The story sees the evil queen Narissa (Susan Sarandon) deviously plotting ways to stop her nephew - the prince from meeting his true love. Giselle (Amy Adams) encounters the prince and on her wedding day is tricked by the queen, and finds her self transported from the animated fantasy world of Andalasia to the real-life city of New York. She befriends a divorce lawyer and his daughter who takes this confused fairytale princess into their lives. The rest is a funny sequence of mishaps and magical elements as Giselle tries to adapt to real-life whilst the Prince is amusingly trying to track her down.

A fun filled family movie that brings out a magical "Disney style" smile.
