Sweet rom-com May 1, 2008 Anyone who is in the mood for a relaxing evening then look no further, The Wedding Date is a heart-warming, hilariously funny and lovable chick flick. It's one that every woman out there will love and watch over and over. 4 stars, a truly enjoyable rom-com! Worth the purchase.
Every woman has exactly the love life she wants! November 7, 2006 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
Those lines have haunted me ever since watching this film. In fact there are a lot of lines in the film which are very thought provoking which is quite surprising when one considers that this film is about a woman called Kat (Debra Messing) who hires a male escort called Nick (Dermot Mulroney) to escort her to her sister's wedding and remind her ex-boyfriend of what he lost!
The concept is a bit far-fetched but from the beginning I was pleasantly surprised and very entertained. Mulroney is stunning and plays Nick as someone so alarmingly confident and switched on it's not hard to see why he has found such success in his chosen profession! Kat is so desperate to please everyone and so badly burned from the past that you really feel for her and I think that's where this film works.
You really care about Kat and so, as Nick sees all her special qualities, you become desperate for them to get together. There are some twists at the end of the film which pull everything together and force the character's to resolve what they want. All in all I loved the way England is presented in this movie and I felt all of the actors did a great job. It's a rom-com so it's never going to be an oscar contender but it's pleasant enough and most definately watchable.
Great Film! September 6, 2006 8 out of 10 found this review helpful
If you like a rom com then this is the film for you! I thought Debra Messing as Kat was great, and not too similar to her character in Will & Grace. Dermot Mulroney was gorgeous as the hired escort and Sarah Parrish excellent as the mad cousin! I watched this film twice I enjoyed it so much, and the second time was better once you know the twist in the story as you pick up on the subtle signs in some scenes.
Soppy Date September 4, 2006 4 out of 9 found this review helpful
If you can believe that a cracker like Debora Messing can't get a date: if you can also believe that she'd pay a large amount of money to get one and pay for a transatlantic flight for him: if you can believe that he can transform from a chauvinistic, insensitive brute into a caring, sensitive wimp after having his way with the heroine: if you can believe all this and still give credence to a squeaky-clean Britain where the sun always shines and everyone except a stock villain behaves impeccably....then you're an incurable romantic and you deserve to be engulfed by this flat and mediocre film.
Utter rubbish June 27, 2006 4 out of 14 found this review helpful
I did have high hopes of this, given the not bad cast. But it was dire - unfunny, let's-try-four-weddings-and-a-funeral formulaic rubbish. The plot line was thin and tacky, the acting and direction diabolical. What on earth was Sarah Parish, in possibly the worst role of her career, doing hamming it up as a 'zany' British cousin? And as for Jack Davenport! DON'T DO IT AGAIN!! Don't waste your time and money, discerning filmgoers.
