Amazon.co.uk Review Set in the aftermath of the first World War, Lillies is a quality period drama that centres on the activities of the Moss family. It's also, seemingly, a show that's been brought to an end after just one compelling series.Living in 1920s Liverpool, the Moss family consists of three girls--Iris, May and Ruby--and one boy, Billy. Trying to keep them in order is their father, following the death of their mother. The three girls, at the behest of their mother, are Catholics, and it's they that Lillies concentrates the best of its time upon. At times not an easy watch courtesy of a fairly uncompromising approach, Lillies is nonetheless a superior piece of drama, and one that's brought together in this welcome and thoughtful three-DVD collection. Across the episodes of the series, the strength of family bond comes across as paramount, but there are still some bitter lows that the Moss' have to tackle. And thanks to a talented cast, it's rewarding to follow their antics and adventures. It'd be a pity if, as it seems, the BBC don't commission another series of Lillies, because there really is a lot to enjoy on the evidence of this debut season alone. If this, though, is to be it, then at least fans of the show, and those who missed it first time around, get a strong DVD set to enjoy. A consolation, certainly, but a good consolation nonetheless. --Jon Foster

Truly Spectacular May 4, 2008 I enjoyed watching Lilies so much and was gript from start to finish. I can't wait for the 2nd series!
lilies April 24, 2008 As usual a quality which did not dissapoint. Extremely touching in parts, and so like the world as it still is. The great social division throughout the world., plus up the bigotry. I enjoyed this very much.
If You Missed This Buy It January 25, 2008 Best Drama from the BEEB last year and could not wait to own my own copy and watch it all again just loved it pray they'll make another series, if you enjoyed The House Of Elliot then this is along the same lines, the actor's and actresses are brilliant and fit there part's so well (it's as if your there with them) and capture the time in history so well very enjoyable, never realised half of what people had to go through back then. Amazon were true to there word and my DVD's were delivered when they said they would when they arrived I couldn't wait to watch them just BRILLIANT viewing worth every penny.
This is a totally great series August 24, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I didn't think I would like this series, the only reasin I watched it was because I was grounded and had nothing better to do. So I was totally suprised when I fell totally in love with the moss sisters and was so entranced by the series that I stayed in on friday nights to watch it even when I was ungrounded. I brought this DVD and watched again, and I loved it just as much second time round.
TV Series nearly ruins holiday August 21, 2007 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
Lilies was aired by the BBC on a Friday night, which happens to be a night I spend on the computer and, anyway, Lilies surely wasn't quite my genre even though I do watch most drama. Having missed the TV showing and after much searching for a muse to take on holiday for late night viewing while my wife slumbered (tendancies to insomnia no - just a sleepy wife), I settled rather reluctantly on this series after reading the reviews. We went on a cruise to Grecian isles and I need say no more than my wife almost kicked me overboard because my nose spent too much time in my portable DVD player watching this damn series. Simply it is the best non Andrew Davies drama the BEEB has produced since Poldark in 1976. The story is simple but gripping in its characterisation with one never knowing quite which way each character will develop. The cancellation of series 2 probably for budget reasons is a travesty. DO NOT MISS THIS !
