The only negative is that the show is over May 20, 2008 From season 1 to 6 I have never seen a bad one of these. Some episodes out-weigh more than others, however the acting never get's weak. This is really for people that haven't seen part 2 is that it is worth the viewing...I am just gutted that the show is over......well who knows...
Solid but past its best January 4, 2008 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
For me the final series of the Soprano's was a disappointing end to what has been a great programme. I found it slow and lacking purpose and much of the old humour is gone. Alot of the scenes were plain unrealistic ie several "civilians" get capped in the show and yet there never appears to be any sign of police investigation or follow up. In this final series anyone can kill anyone whenever they feel like it.
The writers also seemed determined to make the characters markedly more unpleasent then previous series. However that may have been the point of the writers to display the long term effect of living a gangster lifestyle.
Those problems aside, it is still a quality series and would probably be more enjoyable watched as a DVD set rather then individually (as I originally did) on E4. However, for reasons above and below I would not buy this final series.
***WARNING SPOILER*** Oh, and as for the last episode all I can say is NO NO NO! When I saw the ending I thought my digi box had lost connection.. I dont buy the arguements that the "viewer" got whacked or that we are leaving Tony's life etc etc. The writer could not figure out how to end it so he literally did nothing. If he wanted to do an ambiguous ending he could have done it in a million other, better ways. When you look at the endings of other shows (ie Six Feet Under) it really does appear to be a bad joke. The penultimate episode would have been a much better ending . Overall I felt cheated by the ending and it tainted the show for me.
beyond the beyonds January 2, 2008 reading my fellow reviewers tell their tales of this series brought shivers to my spine as i thought back on this, one of my xmas presents and the final roll of the dice for the series sopranos,no more, never again will it darken our doors,or so we are lead to believe and what a way to go out, with a bang or without, you will find out. Nine episodes from the start to the end of this series caused ripples of anger from some,no value for money others cried, well they are off the mark, this is the finest series from one of the finest shows of the modern age. The series tip tops at turtle pace at times here but it works in doing that, that was always the sopranos way and the show charges at the screen with an unrelenting force at various times as well but the key to this show was a tempo that grasped the life out of the viewer, demanding something from the viewer without ever really knowing what it is. This series unwinds in a fashion that will shock and mystify but it all seems so worth it even if some feel short changed, they are surely missing the point, this show is simply the yardstick that others will try and catch but i aint sure if the sopranos will have any real rivals in years to come, this series was so good and powerful and left me in thought, chilling and they still kill the old way, cracking.
spellbinding December 13, 2007 I have to mirror what a lot of other people have been saying. S6 part I was excellent but Part II is just in a diferent league. As another reviewer has so well summed it up, it has an 'End of Empire' feeling about it. Things start to feel so different the story lines develop and build and the tension mounts towards an end to everything as we know it. What you feel at the end is slight sadness, you have seen the last episodes of the vehicle for the best ever character in US American TV Drama history: Anthony "Tony" Soprano. Sure there is debate about the way it ends in the last episode but I like it, pure class! It is like you can choose for yourself! Is it Meadow or is it an assasin at the door, it doesn't matter! i am already watching those last 9 episodes again as I just can't get enough. Awesome!!
PERFECT December 11, 2007 The Sopranos has been entirely perfect from series one to the very end and I firmly believe there is not a single poor episode. It is pure class, the cinematography is amazing, the script and the way in which it is directed is fantastic.
There was a long break in between series five and series six and i worried that the quality may wane as it does in so many shows. It was not to be, it's simply brilliant and as it gets darker and darker it is all the more intriguing.
The sopranos is a multi-layered drama series that only an idiot would think is anything but perfect.
Buy it.
