| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.co.uk Review Glenn Close continues the exodus of terrific movie actors and actresses who are finding the more fulfilling and meaty roles on the smaller screen. And with Damages, she's struck gold in an engrossing legal thriller. Close plays Patty Hewes, an experienced and high profile litigator. She's then joined by the eager, and considerably more wet-behind-the-ears Ellen Parsons (played by Rose Byrne), who fits into the role of her protégé. Damages then sees the pair fighting a bitter and prolonged case against Ted Danson's high-profile and very rich businessman. Where Damages differs from many in the genre is that its first season effectively covers one single case (albeit with many, many strands), much as Murder One did all those years ago. And this makes for an increasingly layered and intriguing drama, with a healthy number of twists to keep you on your toes. The entire first season is presented in this Damages set, and very gripping it is too. Superbly acted by its cast of high and lower profile actors, it brings with it a real compulsion to find out what happened next. It's where the DVD set comes in handy, as there's no longer a week between episodes to get to the next part of the story! Damages may not have been the highest profile export from the States of late, but it is one of the very best. And this set is an ideal opportunity to find out what all the fuss is about

If you only buy one US tv series this year it has to be Damages. The script is sharp and will keep you guessing and hooked to the last episode. This far outshines anything else around at the moment.
Stunning drama April 11, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Review is obviously based on having been captivated by the series on the BBC. This is the best thing I have seen in a long time, stunning performances and a clever, twisting plot that never takes you in the direction you think it is going in. If you missed the series then this is the ideal way to catch up - it did not generate much fuss during it's BBC run - but it should have done. If you buy this, prepare for a long night's viewing - it will be hard to turn off.
If it were a book you wouldn't be able to put it down! April 9, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This series was worth the licence fee alone. I loved it. I was gripped from episode one and went to work with bags under my eyes every Tuesday because I had to watch it!
Close and Danson are awesome and the excellent acting talent that was on display from the other characters only enhanced their great performances.
Our story revolves around Danson, some dodgy accounting and a golfing trip to Florida which leads to his employees being jobless and wanting answers. Step in Close as Patty, a Ruthless litigator who will stop at nothing, do anything and hire anyone that will help her win her big case. Step in Sarah Shahi (from The L Word fame)a young lawyer fresh from Law school and wanting to prove herself. But is it her law talent that gets her that dream job? Tate Donovan (Ex-Mr-Aniston) also stars and I thought he really started to show off his acting skills in this but his character is weak and completely under Close's Thumb.
Just when you think you have it figured out along comes another twist and wham... your theory's out of the window. If you love a good 'who-done-it' this will have the grey matter working whilst perched on the edge of your seat! A real winner!

The most underrated TV drama of 2008. Great script and superb acting, particularly from Glenn Close who is simply awesome.
I had recorded the first seven or so episodes on Sky+ and after watching the first my wife and I could not stop watching until we had caught up.
Delighted to see the reference to Season 1 which hopefully means there will be a Season 2.
Just can't wait for the next episode March 10, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This series is fantastic. It's one of the best series for years. Glenn Close is brilliant - you love to hate her. When one episode ends, you just want to watch the next one immediately. The intrigue is brilliant.
