4 out of 5 stars Prob the best season yet   July 22, 2008
Overall Doctor who's 4th season is probably it's strongest to fate. The good to bad ratio is weighed in the good in the most case. Season 3 had some fairly average ep's but had the brilliant "Blink" and "Human nature" etc.

Heres my rundown.

Xmas special - Voyage of the damned. 2007's xmas ep. This is doctor whos take on the posiden adventure. Kylie minogue guest stars and this is a good ep apart from the rather crap villian who ruins the ending. Some silly moments but a fun ep. 8/10

1. Partners in crime - For a change,a very nice opener indeed. Usually the 1st eps tend to be weak affairs but this is well done and has the right blend of drama and comedy. 8/10

2 The Fires of pompeii. - Terrible opening 15 mins or so but totally redeemed by some amazing drama and acting by tate n tennant and fx in the 2nd half..ace. 9/10

3 Planet of the ood. - Fairly ho-hum ep..quite good but nothing amazing, could have done mor with it. 7/10

4 and 5 The sontaran stragem 2 part story. - Return of those potato headed aliens not seen in yrs. Martha is back along with u.n.i.t. Chris ryan plays general staal very well. Much better than the mid season dalek 2 parter last yr which was terrible. 8/10

6. The Doctors daughter. - Terribly contrived opening sequence which is very tacky and a rather average episode but a tour de force acting class by tennat saves this from being a wash out 6.5/10

7 The unicorn and the wasp. - The Doctor and donna meet agatha chrisie in the 1920's. Bascially a whodunnit of sorts. A nice ep but undemanding. 6.5/10

8 and 9 Silence in the library/Forest of the dead. Steven moffat, who's upcoming replacement for Russell t davies writes another good 2 parter, although not up theer with blink or girl in the fireplace, this is still a good ep,though slightly padded. The mystery of how river song knows the doc will continue in forums for yrs! 8/10

10. Midnight - A cheap episode (saving money no doubt for the end of the series) sees the ep played out on basically 1 set and could be a play. A good premise fo the story is let down by boring repetiveness and a largely terrible supporting cast. Not a s bad as love and monsters but a series low. This seasons worse ep. 4/10

11.Turn left. Anotehr cheap ep but much better. Rose returns in this doctor-lite ep and is mainly a 2 hander between her and catherine tate. Some nice acting by tate brings a lot to this ep. 7/10

12. The stolen sky. - Well where do i begin! One of the best who ep's ever. wow..everyone is in this, rose, martha, capt jack, sarah jane and son, torchwood team. Davros is back with the daleks. This has an unbelivable cliff-hanger if you have not seen this ep.top notch fx and story make this one 10/10

13. Jorneys end. The conclusion to last weeks ep. Another amazing ep. everyone gets there momentt to shine, tennant is on top form..exciting,thrilling,haertbreaking and sad are all moments you'll find in this. This who's longest ep running at 65 mins. A thrilling climax to the series. 10/10

The doc will return at xmas 2008 in "Ghosts in the machines" featuring cybermen in victorian england.

Roll on the special in 2009 !

Doctor Who, Series 4 is not the best series of Doctor Who but it is the 2nd best. The series consists of the following episodes:
Partners In Crime: 9 out of 10: Donna Noble intends on finding the Doctor but to do that she must overcome the villanous Ms Foster.
Fires of Pompeii: 8 out of 10: Donna travels in time for the first time but she travels to Pompeii and it's volcanoe day!!!
Planet of the Ood: 9 out of 10: Donna visits her first foreign planet but the Doctor soon recognises the Ood are the natives!! What disasters can come??
The Sontaran Stategem: 10 out of 10: Martha's back, but the Doctor sees his old enemy the Sontarans. He panics and it has a cliffhanger showing Donnas Grandad in his car getting poisoned by gas!
The Poison Sky: 10 out of 10: With the help of the Sontarans assistant who betrays them they have to solve a way to destroy the Sontaran race
The Doctor's Daughter: 7 out of 10: The Doctor meets a woman who he reckons is the most important woman of his life: HIS DAUGHTER
The Unicorn and the Wasp: 10 out of 10: In 1926 Agatha Christie dissapears for 10 days. Was it amnesia, was she scared are was it because if a giant wasp??
Silence In the Library: 10 out of 10: The Doctor takes Donna to a giant library only to discover a few humans turning into skeletons wondering "Who turned out the lights"
Forest of the Dead: 10 out of 10: While the Doctor discovers how to stop the Versta Nardha, the Professer River Song tells the Doctor who he actually is and how people are going to see him in the future!
Midnight: 7 out of 10: A Planet called Midnight, The Doctor visiting it on a train, what could possibly go wrong? Find out!
Turn Left: 10 out of 10: A fortune teller tries to make Donna forget about the Doctor and see what her life was like! But, a mysterious stranger called Rose Tyler helps her meet the Doctor again! And what do the words Rose tells Donna to say to the Doctor the words are "Bad Wolf"
The Stolen Earth: 10 out of 10: 26 planets go missing and the Doctor recognises the genius behind it: DAVROS
Journeys End: 10 out of 10: The Doctor meets up with loads of friends like: Rose Tyler, Sarah Jane Smith, Harriet Jones, Captain Jack Harkness and Martha Jones, but all that means nothing unless they stop Davros and the Daleks and it is prophiseised that The Doctor will lose one of the loves of his life, Who will it be???
That is it for sereis 4 and i advise you totally to buy it it is a cracking good watch!

5 out of 5 stars Ok, not brilliant, but still one of the best   July 16, 2008
Ok, it might not have been the best series of the revived Dr Who, but i have to say i found it thoroughly enjoyable. Catherine Tate as Donna was able to have me in stitches while at the same time making me cry (ok, i admit i did shed a tear or 2 when the Doctor had to wipe her memory. Also Martha Jones, Rose Tyler, Sarah Jane Smith, and even the return of Harriet Jones (Prime Minister!) were welcome to the stories. David Tennant as the Doctor - i hope they bring him back in 2010 after the 4 specials next year (does anyone know why there isnt going to be a full series in 2009?) Im a 21yr old and would like to thank bbc3 for repeating them on a sunday evening as id be doing what every other 21 year old would be doing on a saturday night - going out and getting drunk!! I have to say though, if they can keep this standard up, or even improve, i will definatley be watching it in the future.

5 out of 5 stars "I'm sorry, but you're gonna die"   July 10, 2008

For a fourth season; this really is spectacular. Each episode pulls along with the next getting better, and better, and better. A seriously good buy I recomend it to all die hard fans as well as new ones.
Plenty of laughs, tears, scares and irritatingly 'oh my bloody god' moments this possibly is the best season to date.
And then there is the long awaited reply to....rose tyler....on a certain bad wolf bay. I screamed the house down and recieved 5 neighbour complaints. it was worth it though.

5 out of 5 stars Best series yet, thanks to Catherine Tate. Just what the Doctor ordered!   July 8, 2008

The Partners in Crime story was an absolute delight. Sarah Lancaster was superb as the wicked, icily effective villainous lady and the sweet little adipose creatures were the cutest thing yet to appear in Dr Who.
Catherine Tate was someone who I said right from the start should be a permanent companion for the Doctor after seeing her in "The Runaway Bride", and I was proved right. She is just what the Doctor needs, a true, loyal and genuine friend, not a silly, lovestruck companion drooling over him and just wanting to get him into bed! It was acceptable and bearable with Rose, and I liked her, but Martha was just intolerable with her gormless gooey-eyed gazing at the Doctor, so obviously suffering from unrequited lurve, and looking at him with that annoying 'please love me' expression. This series would have been even better without the inclusion of Martha at all, and even though it was nice to see Rose back again, in a way I hope we have seen the last of her now, as she has come to the end of her usefulness in the stories, and by bringing back so many former companions, it was like the makers didn't have enough confidence in Donna carrying the series herself, and really, it was her series, it should have been all about her, the Doctor didn't really need all those former companions coming in so much throughout the series, though it was okay having them all together at the end, along with the Torchwood contingent and it's always a delight to see Sarah Jane anyway, along with Luke and K9 and I would always be pleased to see the inclusion of SJ , Luke and K9 in any future episode, but just the Doctor and Donna is really all that is needed in the main, as they go so well together.

I truly hope they find a way to bring her back for a fifth series. What with the inclusion of all the former companions in this series, I don't think they gave their relationship enough time to develop with just the two of them together.

The worst epsiodes of this season, for me anwyay, were the two Sontaran episodes, not only because of drippy Martha being in them, but I don't like the Sontarans and the comedy bit didn't work with them, and they look too much like Phil Mitchell from Eastenders!

The best episodes were the Partners in Crime, Planet of the Ood, and the wonderful Agatha Christie one, how silly of the BBC to put that episode on the disc with the two dreadful Sontaran episodes, they should have been featured on a 3 story disc with the Doctor's Daughter story, then it would have been three Martha stories on one disc, for anyone who likes her, instead of having that superior Unicorn and Wasp story tacked on at the end. That story should have been featured along with the two stories about the library, (which were also extremely good) then the story about the darkness featuring with the final three stories, then the continuity would have been right as those stories would have fitted in much better together.

Anyway, a far superior series to season three, where it was only "Blink" and the two preceding stories with the Doctor losing his identity and being a teacher with Martha as a servant, the only stories really worth watching. Maybe because I just do not like Martha Jones, her being the worst companion the Doctor has ever had, and certainly the most annoying in terms of drippyness.

I felt very sad at the end of season four, the Doctor alone again, and I think they really must bring Donna back, as he needs her. The Doctor needs to have fun again and he seemed so sad, at the start, before Donna appeared again, and what with the sadness at the end, it was very depressing with how Donna was written out and I think if they don't find a way to bring her back again, it will be such an opportunity lost for a brilliant fifth series. But then, finding a way to overcome the problems facing Donna so she can remember and once again take her rightful place as the Doctor's best friend and best companion ever, will be a wonderful storyline and deepen their bond, and make for a very touching friendship with a deeper love developing between them, which is based on real friendship instead of mere physical attraction, because the Doctor has been lonely for too long, and having to worry about companions fancying him can't be very nice for him either, so bring back Donna, BBC, I'm sure they can get her back if they try!
