Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.co.uk Review
To some extent, the team behind the revival of St. Trinian's were on a bit of a hiding to nothing. The old films, contextualised by a far different age, were knockabout, energetic, yet innocent comedies about the antics of a boisterous girls' school and its inhabitants. Surprisingly though, the remake--again inspired by the Ronald Searle cartoons--manages to sidestep the bulk of the obstacles in its path, and proves itself as a likeable, entertaining comedy.

The plot of St. Trinian's is as paper-thin as you'd expect, and serves merely as a platform for the anarchic actions of the cast of characters (some hokum about stealing a picture and saving the school). And a mischievous lot they prove to be: while they don't quite live up to the memories of the generation of St. Trinian's students before them, the primarily young cast still attack their roles with tremendous, and infectious, gusto.

And leading the cast is Rupert Everett, in an entertaining duel role at St. Trinian's headmistress Miss Frinton and her brother, Carnaby. Joined by Colin Firth, he's clearly having a whale of a time, and his casting process a wise decision. It's great to see the always-wonderful Celia Imrie in there, too.

St Trinian's, as you'd expect, has plenty of problems, notably a script that relies too much on the charm of its cast to pull it through. But heck, it's still fun, and a hard film not to enjoy. It won't win Oscars, but it will put a grin on your face. --Jon Foster

2 out of 5 stars Lame   May 15, 2008

This was not viewed on the big screen first. I watched it on DVD in the safety of my own loungeroom without the spotty teens that may have lingered into the theatre to view this....

Sadly, the extras features were more entertaining than the movie.

The movie was lame!

Lame with cheese on top.

Extra cheesey.

My gut feeling was that the music, which made the originals classics, was ignored in this version...no one had a little musical theme etc to listen to like the old ones...

You Brits can do better than this...Simon Peg would have given it some life...or someone similar...

St Trins meets Hot Fuzz, now that would be fun.

Tom in Oz.

3 out of 5 stars St Trinians   May 13, 2008
Well, it was okay I suppose, it did make me laugh a couple of times, particularly with the wee dog called Mr Darcy and reference is made to Colin Firth in Girl with a Pearl Earring. However, I did feel slightly uncomfortable with some of the innuendo, given that we are expected to believe that we are dealing with schoolgirls, it just didn't quite sit right (and this from someone who likes Jimmy Carr so not easily offended). Had it been a totally adult cast it would have been fine but I couldn't quite reconcile it with a child orientated cast. Otherwise, glad I rented and didn't pay at the pictures, would have been a bit annoyed then!

2 out of 5 stars Entertainment without substance   May 9, 2008

The St. Trinian's of old were mishcheivious, the new class are sexed up to say the least. It is entertaining and amusing at times. Considering the cast choice I think they could have made better use of them. The plotline is very thin and merely acts as an excuse to give the girls something to act out against. This is a movie to watch when you're hungover or not in the mood to use your brain. On the plus side younger viewers will enjoy the slapstick humour.

1 out of 5 stars British comady at it's worst   May 6, 2008

I can't even give it one star I did not even want to give this film one star but amazon insists. I really did not like this film, I am a big fan of british comadys, the charcters in this are not even likeable, a bunch of brat running around causing havic. I honestly can not think of a single positive or original moment in the film. I would say to anyone please avaoid do not waste your money.
