If you own an old analogue camcorder you'll love this June 12, 2003 28 out of 29 found this review helpful
Wanting to transfer and edit my old 8mm films I came across the idea of using an analoge capture card to get old films into my PC. For under 100 compared to 650 for a decent DV Camcorder I was a little sceptical. (especialy after reading some of the other reviews) However, I was pleasantly surprised. If your PC has a good amount of memory (512Mb) then the quality as well as the smoothness is very good and most watchable on TV (if a little grainy at times). If I had one complaint it would be the fact that rendering files from AVI to MPEG takes a while however, if you can live with that then you wont be sorry.
Mixed Reviews - Rendering Problems May 16, 2003 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
I bought this without doing any research into alternatives. I am having problems rendering and burning video cds. If you do a search on the web using Google with key words "dazzle video creator render" you will find various web sites containing mixed reviews of this product. The main issue seems to be related to rendering which I can't get to work at all. There are a few people who give it good reviews but they are in a minority. My advice is do some research before you buy!
Very Good For Money April 23, 2003 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
This is the first peice of software i have ever brought that worked very well. It's got some good effects like flames and zooms. It also has very good and effective transitions. You can also get stil images from video and you can make VCD's which work on most DVD players.
Looks good but doesn't do half of what it claims April 14, 2003 58 out of 59 found this review helpful
Bought this little gizmo after reading the discription of it that it can capture from camcorder, vcr and tv and the fact that it was usb meant I didn't have the trouble of installing it internally. Once I had it up and running I tried testing it out by trying to capture from the vcr but no joy, only a black image appeared on my screen. I soon realised that it can only capture the av signal which doesn't include tapes or tv. Although online descriptions claim it can capture from all devices it sadly isn't true. The dazzle Digital Video Creator 80 is only meant for camcorders and no where on the packaging does it claim it can do anything else. The software that it comes with is also pretty poor with very few options apart from where you want to save your file and the record button. Conclusion: if you want to capture from a tv or video then go for the dazzle fusion which can do all and is only 10 more in price.
digital COASTER creator, if it doesnt crash. April 6, 2003 13 out of 14 found this review helpful
This is the worst thing I have ever bought. I can only report what happened to me, but looking at the makers help website I am far from on my own. My pc is above the minimum specs required (P3/500, 256kb ram, W98SE although I use an external hard drive connected via usb2, not said to be a problem but I will point it out - in fact the hard drive was advertised for video editing use). But this is a review of the Dazzle 80 and the problems encountered from the start. The install cd defaults to loading all 5 units in one go, but my pc crashed during that, and required each unit to be individually loaded. Once done, which was slow, I was forced to go to their help website to solve errors such as the device not being found. There I was told to update my software by removing moviestar and downloading the latest version. Wasting much time doing so I found the version number to be the same as the one I had deleted. Hours later, I was ready. So I tried to record from the tv. The pc crashed. A couple of hours later I had recorded something and found I needed to convert it from avi to mpeg. The pc crashed again. Rebooting I did manage to get it to "render" the file - but it crashed while burning it to cd. Not that you can always tell if it had crashed as often it is doing something but shows no sign of it for long, long periods. Converting files seemed to take longer than recording them. So 7 hours after first opening the box, I had a 30 minute vcd, which when played on my tv showed awful frozen pictures - Useless. I had already turned off all other programs to bring my system resources to 75%, but their website suggested even having to dumb down the advanced graphics settings to minimal boosting my system resources to 79%, another go and another crash, followed by another coaster. So in conclusion always look at the makers help forums for advance warning before buying and Amazon, Can I have my money back please? No seriously, can I?
