Canon NB-1LH Battery Pack

Basically its essential. This one (identical to the one supplied with the camera) is reliable, fast to charge, and lasts a couple of days (or 100 or so photos) in my experience.

Its not exciting, but it is worth the 30 quid or so.

I am the happy owner of a Digital Ixus 500. This accessory won't add any functionality to owners of this camera, as it already comes with one of them. However, having two of them extends your camera's life away from a recharger more than adequately (by 100%, obviously enough). It also gives you greater reliability when transferring images onto a PC, and you can have one charging whilst you use the other.

I have had no problems with the unit itself. It's the same 840mAh capacity as the standard issue, which for me has usually lasted a day's social photography using the LCD always and flash as required. It charges in 2 hours max and fits nicely in the official case also available from Canon.

What else can be said? It's only a battery after all. But it's worked perfectly for me, and enhanced my experience of digital photography.

Digital photography is amazing, no getting away from it. When I got my Ixus V3 through Amazon (plug, plug!), I was snapping away in no time. The killer feature of digital photography for newcomers is the ability to dramatically reduce the cost of learning how to use your camera and take great shots. However, everything in there is electronic and takes power to run. LCD, CCD, zoom lens, storage, flash, etc. A full 256Mb card later and waiting for images to transfer and my battery was dead. I was left waiting 3-4 hours to charge the battery.

I thought nothing of it at the time, but looking back, this is clearly the one thing I didn't like about my camera. You need to keep the batteries coming thick and fast to really enjoy them (along with added memory!). Having a spare battery allows me to interleave the batteries using one while the other charges. It has been the key enabler for me really settle into Digital photography.

I've had this battery for around 6 months now. It was worth the money, no doubt. The battery usually lasts for around 150 photos with the LCD on, and around 40 of those shots being with flash. I haven't tried this without the LCD, but I imagine the battery to last signficantly longer. The original Canon battery is now in the bin and I have two of these little batteries to tote around with me. For me, this spare battery completes the Canon ownership experience. Don't hesitate, buy one.

This battery fits the Digital IXUS 400 camera and has lasted me for 256 photo's so far on 1 charge (with screen on and also shooting two 3 minute movies) Exactly the same battery as the one supplied in the IXUS box.

Thsi battery lasts about 6 times longer than the one that comes with the Ixus Battery.
Definitly worth it, if you are the type of person to take a pic, then look at it in the viewer, then show the pic to whomever is in the pic, then think about whether or not to delete it..etc etc.. all the while wasteing battery...
...but this battery lasts.
