Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC HSM lens allows enjoyment of super wide-angle photography and it is a very powerful tool for indoor shooting and landscape photography with APS-C size image sensors of digital SLR cameras. Wide angle of view (102.4 at 10mm and 63.8 at 20mm) offers the photographer greater freedom of expression. Three SLD glass elements are employed for effective compensation of color aberration, which is a common problem with super-wide angle lenses. One piece of glass mold and two hybrid aspherical lenses, offer excellent correction for distortion, as well as all types of aberration. This lens is equipped with an inner focusing system, and the models which are equipped with HSM system provide quiet, high speed autofocus shooting and also offer full time manual focusing. It has a minimum focusing distance of 24cm (9.4) at all focal lengths. The non-rotating lens barrel perfectly suits the petal shaped lens hood. A circular polarizing filter can also be used conveniently.

I'm a newbie to DSLRs and went in for this lens for winde angle photos.Went through a couple of review sites and zeroed in on this lens.Got it yesterday and after a few test shots, gotta say this is one amazing lens. The quality is amazing and pictures are quite sharp. As someone above me said, there's a fair amount of vignetting but if you get used to it you can overcome it.Overall,an amazing lens at an amazing price

I'm pretty new to photography and after a while playing with the kit lens I decided I wanted to have a wide angle. I read all the reviews and this Sigma was highly rated. Having used it for a few months I can only endorse this view. It takes great pictures even in the hands of a tyro like me and I think it is excellent value for money.

5 out of 5 stars Stunning   April 18, 2008

First up let me say that I am not a professional photographer or even a very experienced amateur. I might not know all there is to know about photography but what I do know is that I LOVE what comes through this lens.

I was pleased with the build quality (as I have been with all my Sigma EX series lenses) and initial testing showed the autofocus to be fast, accurate and VERY quiet. This might not be surprising to those of you with a bag full of Canon L USM lenses but coming from consumer grade lenses this was a revelation.

I was seriously taken aback by just how wide 10mm is on a 1.6 crop camera (Such as Canons xxD and xxxD ranges). I could stand almost on top of subjects and still manage to get them all in. The extreme angles involved creates some distortion effects but these add to the pictures in my opinion.

The real joy however was when I returned from my first outing and began sorting through the pictures. The colours were fantastic, the images were, without exception, very sharp and the creative possibilities on a lens this wide made the photos stand out far more than the usual "snapshots" that a photographer of my calibre produces.

The ultra wide zoom made by Canon may well be better and I've no doubt that a full frame camera with professional grade lenses might yield better results but for this price I cannot find fault with Sigma's offering.

2 out of 5 stars Great Lens - but only If you get a good one. Mine isn't   April 13, 2008

I purchased this lens from a well known UK online retailer (not Amazon), and got a dud. Discovered that approx 1/3rd of the total picture area from the lefthand edge inwards, was slightly soft, enough to distinguish it from the remaining 2/3rds, which was sharp. Looking at various Sigma forums, I wasn't alone in experiencing this in particular, and other faults. Rather than sending it back to the retailer, I decided to send it direct to Sigma UK. who agreed to replace it (after a month sitting on their shelf). Then I was told that during the replacement formalities, their system flagged up the fact that my lens was a 'grey import' (not counterfeit, but not imported via Sigma UK). So now they couldn't replace it after all, neither could I expect to have Sigma's 2 year warranty extension. However, out of the goodness of their hearts, they would be prepared to send it to Japan for repair - which would take 8 weeks. Or, I could take it up with the retailer. I opted for the latter, and it is currently with them for a replacement.

Moral: when purchasing this particular Sigma lens, be prepared to do your own QC and test thoroughly on receipt. Also make sure the retailer is selling genuine Sigma UK imported stock, as these days it seems there is little or no difference in price between grey imports and genuine UK stock, but big differences in warranty support by the manufacturer.

5 out of 5 stars A cracker for the money!   February 24, 2008

Get a good one and this lens will give anybody great results. Bit of vignetting wide open and it has occasional flare issues (comes with a hood, so use it!), but other than that it has massively impressed me. Tested it alongside a Canon 10-22mm and the Sigma beat it for sharpness at almost every point. I use a Hama 77mm circular polariser on the front.

Great value lens!
