Thrilled with my first satnav - so easy to use July 3, 2008 This is my first satnav - it was a birthday present and just what I wanted, although I didn't know at the time! It's fantastic, very user friendly, intuitive, fast, with large print, bright colours, clear sound, a blue car which matches mine and the route is marked in PINK! It changes to nighttime colours automatically, recalculates routes quickly and I'm confident I won't get lost in Milton Keynes ever again. It's hard to believe there's anything out there that would suit me better.
Garmin Nuvi 250 Sat Nav June 22, 2008 Recieved in the time stated Was able to take it out of the box and use it straight away. Doesn't take you on the quickest routes but will re- calculate if you go in a different direction to the one that it tells you. I will never get lost again
Great bit of simple kit June 20, 2008 If you just want a satnav device that plots a good route this must be difficult to beat. Works straight out of the box, is absolutely simple to use and very easy to find your way around the functions. Experience to date so far shows it to be very accurate and finds the best routes. Has successfully enabled me to navigate some very remote areas in Cumbria and works well in my home county of Devon. No bells and whistles, delightfully simple. If you only want something to plot your route, tell how long it will take and costs under 100 for UK and European maps this is for you.
Nuvi 250 sat nav June 15, 2008 As a total newcomer to sat nav, I bought the Nuvi 250 on the strength of some good reviews on Amazon, plus the fact it was quite inexpensive. I tried it out on some familiar routes & had some interesting results: apparently the next street doesn't exist, & neither do a lot of mini roundabouts! It took me to work by a totally different route to my normal one, but it got me there in good time.
The instructions are very clear & usually timely, although you need to keep an eye on the display for those times when it tells you to turn at the last second. That can be very interesting when in heavy traffic!
In reality, I think the 250 is a really good entry-level unit & I would trust it most of the time. I guess the 255 that superscedes it will be better, but I can do things with the 40 the 250 saved me.
To get things into perspective, both my wife & myself are probably the worst navigators in the country & could get lost in our own back yard, so anything remotely accurate would be a major improvement.
I think the Nuvi 250 is well worth the money for anyone wanting a good, basic unit.
First Sat Nav June 15, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is my first sat nav and I'm very impressed with it. I bought it as I was moving to Portsmouth from Glasgow and was not sure I would be able to navigate and drive without taking some wrong turnings that would add quite a bit of time to my journey. I also had to find my new lodgings that I'd never seen and get from there to work the next day. There was a great deal of potential for a nightmare. The Nuvi 250 performed outstandingly. My new lodgings are in a new estate and not on the maping but it got me to within a few streets of the lodgings and I was talked through the final bit on my mobile. I've had it for two weeks now and used it a lot so I think I can give a good review. On the negative side it is not infallible. Sometimes on roundabouts it points to the wrong exit (about 5% of the time)however if you read the road signs as well as use the sat nav then that sorts that problem. When you take a wrong turning or have to make a detour it quickly re-calculates and puts you back on course. Desite the few glitches I give it 5 stars. One last thing to remember when using any sat nav is use your comon sense.
