5 out of 5 stars Great product   May 11, 2008

This is a great DVD recorder and very good value for money. It's been very simple to use and after months of constant use, I have no complaints.

The built in freeview gives both higher quality and a more consistent signal than my previous stand alone box and the menu is intuitive and easy to use, expecially for recording.

Recording is as easy as a single button press once you've chosen the show you want. The recorder reads all kinds of discs and prompts you to format them when they require it. You can even create menus for your recordings through the recorder.

Overall, I've been highly impressed with both the performance and ease of use, and I would recommend this as by far the best product in it's price range.

4 out of 5 stars Great DVD recorder/player   February 5, 2008

This DVD recorder offers simple recording, you call up the freeview guide, select the program your interested in and press a button, always worth adding a few mins to the end time as the TV companies have a habit of over running.

The picture from this recorder is fantastic especially when connected to a hidef ready TV, it even gives great quality when wired up to a LCD projector.

This recorder doesn't have some features like zoom, but it starts up instantly, none of that loading for 5 mins that I had on my old Sony.

Still haven't worked out how to record and have scenes, which is a pain when you want to forward through a recording.

Lovely bit of kit, looks good and is good.

4 out of 5 stars Value for money   December 19, 2007

Have had the unit for two weeks and generally very pleased with it. Installation and operation of the main functions is very straight forward and the remote also operates most functions of my existing Panasonic TV. This is my first experience of Freeview and the picture is excellent. Quality of recordings is also excellent and the 'play whilst still recording' function of the DVD RAM discs is a great feature. My unit is a silent as they come; there is some low noise for a minute when first switched on and then silence. EPG is easy to use and record from, although if the programme is delayed or early you can miss bits. Best to use the EPG then manually add a few minutes. Have not yet used the HD upscaling as my TV is not HD. I know I will need a set top box when the analogue signal is turned off due to the single digital tuner but for now I can record digital and watch analogue and vice-versa.
I would happly recommend this unit.

3 out of 5 stars Picture quality worse than Cyberhome. Item is noisy.   December 18, 2007

Returned this item as picture quality is inferior to my cheap Cyberhome player - yes really. (Played out of the box with no attempt at adjustments.) Also unit is noisy - periodic clunk from disc drive along with other noises when in play mode. This player has a cooling fan in a housing protruding from the rear which also contributes to the noise. Are fans really necessary or just a fashion statement? Consumer electronic equipment of old got pretty hot but never needed forced cooling. Seems to me that with fans in PCs and other devices the living room is slowly becoming industrialised. The basic play buttons are not intuitive and menu presentation is unrefined. Never got round to trying any record features.
