Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The U900 is by far one of the best models Samsung has released to date. The latest addition to Samsungs Ultra Edition range has an ultra-slim high resolution screen, a 5-megapixel photo sensor and a Bang&Olufsen amplifier, as well as a brushed steel body thats comfortable to the touch. Inside its casing, the U900 hides an autofocus system, complemented by a digital image stabiliser and a face detection mode that focuses in on smiles, and a music player so you can listen to your favourite music while youre on the move. From a more practical point of view, the U900 has a phone book able to save up to 1,000 entries and a diary, allowing you to keep organised and manage your day-to-day tasks easily. The U900 even reads Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF files, making it the perfect mobile phone for the most demanding users.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC PHONE - BUY IT!!!   May 11, 2008
21 out of 21 found this review helpful

If you're considering buying this phone but are unsure because it's a new model with few reviews - BUY IT!!! NONE of the pictures on any site I saw did it justice AT ALL and now that I've had it - and used it - for over a week, I can honestly say that it really is a brilliant phone.

The camera has had mixed reviews, but as photography is part of my business, I can state that for a camera phone, it's absolutely great and very handy for me to have when I don't have my SLR with me. The 5 megapixel is unbelievable for a phone this thin and with all the creative modes on offer, Im surprised that a few reviews said it wasn't that good. People expect too much from a phone, in my opinion and if they want a hi-spec camera, they should buy one!!! The video feature is also great, although it's not something I use very often. Oh, and some sites indicate that there is no flash on the camera, which is incorrect. There is and it works well.

There are three main 'themes' that you can choose or two levels of customisation - standard and expert - which all look great in my opinion. Even with one of the set themes, you still have the option of customising the way that the main and touch panel displays look [colours, brightness, contrast etc.] without spoiling the rest of the theme. Talking of which, when it comes to the touch panel itself, Samsung really have got this spot on. I previously had a Sony Ericsson K850i with part touch screen and part joystick [which was badly positioned] and it was truly awful! This is NOT the case with the U900 - it looks great and works very well indeed. The icons change according to the mode that you're in at the time and you can adjust the sensitivity to suit your own touch - plus you can customise the icons that appear in the main standby mode, just the way that you can with standard joystick phones [i.e. up arrow for messages, right arrow for phonebook, down arrow for alarm clock, right arrow for organiser - or whatever features you use frequently etc.

The keyboard is very similar to the Motorola Razor - flat and with a brushed metal finish - and once you get used to it [doesn't take long], texting, dialing and browsing [web] is very easy.

Internet access is very good as well thanks to the new EDGE and HSDPA technologies. Because of this, web access is MUCH quicker than the earlier GPRS or WAP systems, which means that as well as being able to view the internet on the phone, you can also connect your laptop or PDA whilst out in the field and use it as a modem. That way you'll be able to use your normal browser such as Internet Explorer, Safari or Firefox as well your normal email client [Outlook, Outlook Express, Windows Mail etc.] to send and receive emails. Although it's nowhere near as good as WLAN, it's a damn site closer to it than it was - and is actually now practical enough to use as a realistic alternative.

The slide action of the phone is the best I've ever seen and overall, the phone looks incredibly stylish and feels very nice in the hand. Reviews I've read have said that the phone is heavy, but don't mistake that for being TOO heavy - because it's not. It just feels solid as opposed to plastic and cheap - and the brushed metal finish is stunning. It's very thin, considering all the features it has and is just a fantastic looking phone. Friends and family have even commented on it's good looks!

Finally, the PC software that comes with the phone, is one of the best I've seen and unlike all of the Sony Ericsson phones I've had, this one actually works - and again, works very well!! Once it's connected [via USB or Bluetooth], you can easily access / edit things on the phone and you can even send and recieve SMS and MMS messages on your PC!

There will be things that I've missed off, but hopefully the time I've taken to write this review will be of some help to you at least! Especially as I couldn't find any reviews that were accurate and actually of any use myself!!! If you're going to look at one in a shop, do ask the sales rep to show you a working version, as the plastic model doesn't do it justice either and they're obliged to show you a real one if you're serious about buying. If they are unwilling, simply go to another shop and find someone who will show you a real one - it's well worth looking before you buy, as with anything these days really.
