Great Buy June 10, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this camera to replace my Ixus II.
I researched many different cameras and it came down to this or the sony T9. This is by far the better value for money, as it's considerably cheaper and it has all the same features.
The camera has been with me all over Europe, to football matches, Balls, nights out and Weddings and has produced stunning pics everytime. The big screen is magic. With a screen that size, you don't need a view finder at all. The battery lif is good and the quality of movies on the highest setting are excellent. I have a 1gb card and i can take roughly 400-odd pics on the highest setting. I would recommend a screen protector if you get this and the leather case. The camera looks great and is slim enough to fit in your jeans pocket as it's no thicker than a wellet.
Definately one of the best point and shoots on the market.
Small, but perfectly formed February 26, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The Ixus 65 is an excellent compact digital camera. The construction of the camera is very good, it just feels so solid. The only weak point I believe is the compartment that has the A/V out and digital connection to the PC. It feels like it could break if the flap covering the connectors is used too often. Although it has been fine for me so far.
The camera has loads of options for anyone wishing to play around with the settings, although the camera does do a good job on automatic mode for those quick shots. The high ISO settings can give very grainy pictures for night shots.
The large screen is very clear and is excellent for viewing photographs. I like the fact that the picture auto rotates as you turn the camera! My only real negative for this camera is the lack of a viewfinder, but apart from that, the camera is excellent for slipping into your pocket/handbag for when you go out. It is very small, but well constructed and has ample features for people to play with.
brilliant little camera February 15, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Was recommended the earlier version by a professional photographer, and saw this reviewed in PC Pro magazine where it is still on their A list, as was it's predecessor. On those recommendations i bought it and have not been disappointed. I have a 2GB SD card with it, came as part of the bundle on EBay, and the photos are amazing, considering i am not a natural photographer. All my mates etc are well impressed too!
Almost everything you could want in a digital camera January 11, 2007 34 out of 34 found this review helpful
I bought my IXUS 65 as a more travel-friendly companion to my dSLR, so one of the most important factors in my mind was how easily it would fit in my pocket, but I also didn't want to compromise too much on image quality; it had to be very significantly better than the camera on my mobile phone.
I spent a whole day on the internet researching my choice and finally chose the IXUS 65 over the Canon IXUS i7 (a smaller camera but other reviewers say it has poorer image quality), FujiFilm Finepix F30 (which might take better pictures but is not as compact), and the Panasonic Lumix FX07 (better in the wide-angle range but poorer image quality on some of the sites I've seen).
Good points of the IXUS 65: - Very small and lightweight, easily fits into a small pocket - Stylish looks will impress - Ready to shoot pretty quickly when you turn it on - Huge LCD display is nice and clear, makes composition easy - Satisfactory indoor / night shots (many compacts struggle with this) - Slow Synchro flash achieves good results at night - Very good auto white balance - saves time - Very nice macro shots for a digital compact - Canon's online support is great except for replacement manuals...
Things I dislike: - Disappointing battery life, definitely worth getting a spare - Flimsy covers for connectivity ports & battery/SD compartment - Noisy at ISO 800 (but no worse than most of the competition) - Autofocus is not great in low light conditions - No "landscape" mode - I get a similar effect by choosing *Manual* shooting mode, *Vivid* in MyColours, *Infinity* focusing, and a low ISO - but that's about 10 key presses where one would be better!
Overall, I like the IXUS 65 and I'm very happy with my choice.
I'd definitely recommend the IXUS 65 for: - People who mostly take photos at parties, social gatherings, on holiday etc - this camera's looks will impress, it's easy to use, and most reviewers agree it takes better pictures than the IXUS i7 or iZoom - People who want to be able to take photos quickly in an automatic mode and aren't bothered about having manual settings - People like me who want a second, smaller camera as a partner for a more fully functional model - this camera is very pocket-friendly
But I would not recommend the IXUS 65 as your only camera if you want to be more creative with your own settings (maybe think about the FujiFilm F30).
