Product Description Canon introduces the latest evolution of the IXUS range of digital cameras for style-conscious digital photographers: the Canon Digital IXUS 860 IS. Equipped with a 28mm (35mm equivalent) 3.8x wide-angle zoom lens with optical Image Stabilizer, the 8.0 Megapixel Canon Digital IXUS 860 IS is the successor to the hugely popular Canon Digital IXUS 850 IS. The Canon Digital IXUS 860 IS digital camera offers a range of enhancements over its acclaimed predecessor. These include a 3.0? PureColor LCD and improved Face Detection Technology. The Canon IXUS 860 IS high ISO capabilities work in tandem with an optical Image Stabilizer lens to significantly reduce the risk of image blur.Optical Image StabilizerHelping the photographer capture more from group shots, landmarks and landscapes, the 3.8x wide-angle lens of the Canon IXUS 860 IS has a focal length of 28-105mm (35mm equivalent). The lens system incorporates Canon?s lens-shift type optical Image Stabilizer (IS) - first developed in EF lenses for Canon?s market leading EOS system of professional D-SLR cameras and lenses - to counteract camera shake. The lens also incorporates Canon?s aspherical lens technology (UA) for maximum sharpness and clarity. ISO featuresThe Canon Digital IXUS 860 IS features a range of ISO features that work in combination with optical IS to virtually eliminate the risk of image blur. A second line of defence against camera shake is Auto ISO Shift, which can be selected by the user to boost the ISO setting just enough to reduce blur. Two further ISO features - manually selected high ISO settings up to ISO 1600 and High ISO Auto - combat the blur caused by typical subject movement, as well as camera shake when poor light would normally require a longer exposure. Photographic capabilities with luxurious styleThe Canon Digital IXUS 860 IS combines enhanced photographic capabilities with luxurious style. The classically curved Canon Digital IXUS 860 IS has a two-tone body that contra

Out of focus June 19, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've always had Canon products, so when my powershot died this year, I replaced it with the IXUS. And for the first time in my life, I'm finding that about 1/2 of my pictures are blurred. The autofocus is just not as good as their other products.
Good camera, but vulnerable lens! Get a hard case! May 15, 2008 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
I bought this camera in Nov 2007, along with the Canon DCC-70 Leather case (sold by Canon specifically for this camera).
I find the picture quality is very good; the colors are vivid, the large screen is wonderful, the wide-angle on the lens is very useful (that's why I chose this camera).
BUT:
The power button on the camera is not recessed, so is very easy to press by accident, whether it is in your pocket or even when it is in its case (the sides of the leather case are soft, so the power button can even be pressed while in its case. Pressing the power button deploys the lens - but if the camera is still in your pocket (or in its case), this is impossible, so the lens assembly grinds to a halt. I think the lens assembly may be particularly fragile due to the Optical Image Stabilisation - in any case, the result is that the lens assembly breaks. Unfortunately this kept happening to us (despite taking reasonable precautions) and the lens assembly broke within ~5 weeks of purchase. The lens assembly was repaired by Canon under warranty, but the new one broke again within two weeks!
In conclusion, the 860is is a fine camera for those who treat it with kid gloves - but I've found it isn't robust enough to be carried around in a pocket.
Try to find a Canon 850is instead - this has the same lens, has an optical viewfinder, and doesn't have the power button problem!

Hey Guys... Bought the camera last month after readin all the reviews n searchin the best prices, just arrived in 2 working days with all the things <<< IN THE BOX >>> like 2 CD's HAVING SOFTWARE TO RECOGNIZE CAMERA (DRIVER) and WRITTEN MANUAL IN 4 LANGUAGES , BATTERY, CHARGER POINT, TWO DIFFERENT CORDS with 2PIN and 3PIN PLUGS, USB CABLE, BLACK STRAP (which is very useful to take out memory card if ur nails r short ;) ) and last the TV cable,
Camera is really amazing just press ON and u can click first picture in almost 2-3 seconds.. battery life is upto ur shots n flash off course but do last for quite many shots haven't noticed that part sorry... Ok bout the results of the video its more like a camcorder but if u Zoom IN, while making the video its gets lil blured, though they take lots of megabytes just for few minutes but if making high resolution video u need little bigger card as i put 4GB ( SDHC CARD FROM SANDISK) in it, so it can make almost half an hour movie on that space... taken loads of pictures already dnt have much idea bout this ISO in the camera but face detection is somthin very good option the blocks on screen automatically detect the faces and focus on them, LCD is way to sexy even in daylight u can see results very clearly.
Talkin bout the pictures result its not very good for night shots as the resolution of pictures on original size isn't that sharp like in daylight just if u put flash in night the pictures become pretty sharp n crisp for daylight nothing is like this camera u might get blured shots in daytime to but its just cuz of ur hands nothing else happened to me lots of time. On the other hand one tiny thing i really dnt like bout my camera that it gets finger prints very easily on the body which i always clean after takin few shots cuz i dnt like it dirty ;) But ITS highly recommended to anyone and to those who wants to start photography with reasonably priced camera with such good results. Enjoy ur 860IS
Good camera but problems with video April 22, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is a nice camera, though slightly heavier than the Ixus 3 I am used to. Stills are good, though there is no auto-red eye even in portrait mode. Battery life is excellent.
Main problem was with the video. After 5 months the camera stopped autofocusing in video mode, so any zoomed video is blurred. Am sending back today.
p.s. Just a word about Amazon customer service. Absolutely amazing. Instant telephone response. No mucking about with repairs. They will simply send out a replacement camera this week EVEN BEFORE THEY HAVE GOT THE DEFECTIVE ONE BACK!!! Extremely impressive. In future I will not buy tech stuff from anyone else. Well done Amazon.
An excellent camera March 26, 2008 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Probably the best "wide-angle" compact digital camera on the market. Really good colour reproduction, and even at ISO 400 the noise is kept to a minimum. As with most digital camera not great indoor with artificial light, but you can set up your own colour and exposition so just a minor problem.
