Doesn't work on some Macs June 7, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
Works on my PC fine but doesn't work on a couple of macs I've tried it in.
Disappointing May 18, 2008 4 out of 8 found this review helpful
I paid something like 40 over the odds for this product under the illusion that it would be especially reliable and resilient for the use I had in mind. Instead, the LED indicator light has failed after a couple of months so you can no longer tell whether it is in the "connected" or "disconnected" state. What is worse, for the first time in my experience of buying technology on the Internet, the manufacturer seems to regard their failure as my fault and require me to pay to deliver the rejected drive to them for replacement. Based on this experience, I strongly recommend against buying Freecom products.
Good value and highly recommended! May 8, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Brilliant product! Compact, robust and a really good looking drive. Freecom have thought of everything the integrated USB cable is a great idea, better still there is an extension cable if your USB port is at the back of your PC. Being a bit of a novice I found the free software very useful. I haven't tried the 2-metre drop test but its good to have the peace of mind that my data is well protected. Good value and highly recommended!
Great drive... while it works! April 22, 2008 3 out of 9 found this review helpful
After reading the reviews I was very excitable about getting this hard drive. And sure enough, it was sleek, quiet whilst being used and transfers data at a decent rate.
Despite this, i had 2 of these drives fail on me! Thats right.. not one, but two!! The drive spent most of the time sitting next to my laptop and only ever got taken out in a padded laptop bag. So the fact that they failed was all the most infuriating.
They both failed whilst transferring data, one had a spindle that stopped spinning properly and the other felt the need to prompt a re-fotmat every time i plugged it in.
If you are going for this, i hope ur luck is better than mine!
Fantastic little box ! April 16, 2008 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
I just wanted to back-up my music and photos for some peace of mind in case my laptop drive failed and this is great. It's small, virtually silent, feels very solid and is easy to use straight out of the box. Literally, just plugged the attached USB connector into my Dell Inspiron 6000 (2 years old) and copied the folders - no power issues at all. Yes, perhaps I should have converted to NTFS, but I figured that FAT32 would suffice for back-ups. Also installed the Shadow software and set up a back-up job : you can start the job anytime or schedule it for a specific time - the software is even clever enough to recognise if the Freecom drive is connected, and if not it waits. As to write speed, I copied 10GB in around 18 minutes. Overall, a great buy for 250GB and you also get a USB extension cable to use for larger PCs.
