Product Description This casserole dish is constructed from high quality cast iron and double enamelled by hand, again going through rigorous quality checks at every stage of their finishing. The initial layer of enamel forms a solid base for the top coat of enamel, the Red coat, to adhere to, as well as inhibiting any corrosion that could occur if untreated cast iron left in contact with the air and moisture. Each piece receives a final quality check before packing into their distinctive Chasseur silver and grey boxes. The Chasseur Cast Iron range has been manufactured to the highest standards by skilled craftsmen, using time honoured techniques at our foundry in the Champagne Ardennes region of France, for over 70 years. Today these age old techniques have been updated, using modern technology where possible, to ensure that the foundry is able to produce consistently top quality products whilst reducing the environmental impact on their surrounding area. The environmental issues have been addressed through the recycling of both raw materials and materials used in the manufacture as well as the installation of a super efficient furnace with a sophisticated filtering system, making it one of the cleanest in Europe.

Cookware as it should be January 10, 2008 5 out of 13 found this review helpful
I decided to get some cast iron casseroles about a year ago but was waiting to spot the right bargain and just before Christmas Amazon had a deal on these that I could not ignore. They had the Chasseur Cast Iron Round Casserole 26cm, 22cm and 18cm for under 100 so I bought all three. I have used them all and they are absolutely brilliant. Browning meat is easy, the flavor is great and you only need a very low heat for a great result. One of the main reasons I bought these was to be able to do more slow cooking in the oven which I have done several times with very good results.
Of course they are very heavy especially when laden with food and the handles get very hot but you will soon get use to that. It was also a nice surprise to find out that they are dishwasher safe but I haven't put them in the dishwasher yet partly because of their weight but mainly I rather not do that to protect the enamel coating from any possible damage.
Well, these really are the must have coockware for anyone who enjoys cooking and good food.
I have since bought the 26cm griddle pan too so my set is now complete.

These chasseur cast iron casseroles are virtually identical to Le Creuset (i swear they come out of the same factory). The "chilli red" colour is a very dark blood red colour much like claret. The pot is so universal. Firstly it's easy to brown meat and fry things. Then you can add everything else for you casserole. Nothing sticks to the enamel either. Amazing! It seems to be very efficent at heat retension too. When I use it on my gas hob on the smallest burner (on minimum gas) it is still too hot! I have to use a "heat diffuser". I've never had a pot this large that can stay that hot with so little heat. I quite often use the oven instead as it is cooler! The knob on top is heat proof to 200C which is as hot as you want. Overal, I'm highly impressed. There are a coupleof draw backs. Of course, cast iron is very heavy. When this is fully laden with food it could weigh about 6 or 7 kilos. You need to use oven gloves to touch it as it stays so hot for so long. It is fairly expensive. I'm still very happy, hence five stars!
