This was our first steamer. We have found it excellent for doing vegetables though for our taste 40 minutes is about right. The physical design is a bit flimsy but adequate for our needs. Last night, the veggies were a little under-done and to cut a long story short, after only 13 months, the element has gone. (I am a qualified electrician). Planned obselescence? I see I can buy a new element for just over 18 pounds but with postage I can buy a new steamer for not much more. What a waste of resources, still the baskets will do as spares for the new one.
Don't buy it April 23, 2006 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
At first sight the easy storage looks sensible, but it means that you cannot change the basket configuration to speed up steaming eg for the top basket. In addition the catches for the removeable bottom trays easily break, finally the tray and lid have not stood up well to a dishwasher. I had my previous steamer for 10 years, I doubt this one will make it for 18 months. Poorly designed and poorly manufactured. Don't buy it.
Quick to steam November 11, 2005 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
This heats up really quickly and is easy to top up the water in the side. The baskets come apart easy, and its easy to clean...
Useful but quite fragile September 3, 2005 20 out of 20 found this review helpful
I use the steamer for all my vegetables and it heats up and starts steaming very quickly. You can top up the water through the spout at the side which is better than taking all the baskets off. I also like the stacking baskets which means the steamer can be stored in a relatively small space but you need to get used to the stacking order of each basket. My major grouse is that the little plastic flanges on each base break very easily. Mine have all broken from simply assembling/disassembling them for washing as you need to gently press them into place - a knack that isn't easily mastered. Spare bases are expensive and I am loath to buy a new steamer so continue to use it and put up with the bases falling out when I tip the vegetables out!

This appliance has good space easy to store and assemble, however there are a few problems: --firstly to cook vegetables or fish takes a lot longer than stated. --secondly the steamer doesn't cook meat well, leaving it heavy and wet, though fish is done very nicely. --thirdly the timer (which also works as an On/Off switch) sometimes gets jammed so you have to twist it to get it cooking again. considering this I think that the machine is more bother than its worth - just boil up your veggies!
