The best kitchen device you could buy. March 26, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I started to steam vegetables when we had a baby. After 3 plastic steamers, I looked for something more sturdy.
This steamer works perfectly. It is tough and easy to clean. By following the timings recommended in the handbook, vegetables are steamed to exactly the right degree. I have also found that I can use it to steam rice, by placing the rice and water within a ceramic dish inside the steamer, with the required water (using a smaller quantity than normal). The rice becomes sticky.
SCRAP ALL OTHER STEAMERS AND BUY THIS!!! March 5, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
BEST STEAMER I HAVE EVER USED, SCRAP ALL OTHER STEAMERS ESPECIALLY THE PLASTIC ONES AS THEY ARE DANGEROUS. FANTASTIC PERFORMANCE, DETAIL IS GREAT, PERFORMS AS YOU WOULD EXPECT FROM A QUALITY PRODUCT AND MAKER. BUY YOURSELF A SMALL CLOCK WORK TIMER FOR ABOUT A FIVER AND YOU ARE AWAY.
fast, efficient steamer January 20, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I have had 2 Tefal steamers, the plastic baskets eventually broke. I bought Prestige as the strong. metal baskets are both sturdy and dishwashersafe. The steamer is much faster than Tefal. The only downside though, is that the baskets are durable, but the electrics fail, so swings and roundabouts really. There is no bell or indicator to let you know if it boils dry. I am on Prestige number 2 and the same thing has just happened after only 6 months, the electrics have gone.
Prestige Cook and Steam Steamer January 18, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is absolutely the best piece of equipment in my kitchen! I have been a long term electric steamer fan, but this one is the Rolls Royce - ok it takes up a bit more room on the work surface but in the first week since it arrived I have hardly used my hob. Again, no timer but wow, everything else is superior to any steamer I have owned previously - I am taking it camping with me, electric hook up is now an essential! Buy it you won't regret it.
Metal baskets are so much better than plastic. November 8, 2007 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
Great steamer, plus the frypan to boot. Large capacity (can cook for two using only one tier) which does take up more space than some, but being stainless steel it looks good when not in use. No timer, but buy a separate one if you've not got a timer because this steamer is so much better than one with plastic baskets. There are no clips to break off. Food doesn't get stuck in the holes as the metal is so much thinner than plastic bases. There are no little corners or grooves to collect food in. The baskets will go in a dishwasher and come out clean. I'd never buy a plastic one again.
