A REALLY useful addition to the kitchen November 12, 2007 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This casserole dish is probably the best investment I have ever made for my kitchen. I have had mine for over four years and it still looks brand new (though I have had to use Le Creuset pot cleaner on a couple of occasions when hours of cooking have resulted in stuff baked INTO the dish.) Usually I just stick it in the dishwasher and it comes out sparkling! I have used it to steam chickens, bake large roasts and slow cook countless casseroles. It's worth going for this big size just so you can fit birds in and I have happily fed 10 people with casseroles from this dish. I love that it can be used over the direct heat of my gas hob, and in the electric oven. I think its classic design makes it chic enough to serve from plus, there's something incredibly comforting about a steaming casserole dish in the centre of a table!
Perfect for 'Coq au Vin' February 5, 2007 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
this superb CAST IRON Casserole/Cocotte/French Oven, from Le Creuset. Size 29 cm OVAL/Approx Capacity 4.7L Le Creuset Code - 25002.29
Or - if you are looking for a different recipe for this sized dish, check out 'Pheasant in Madeira Sauce' on page 21, in 'The Cast Iron Way to Cook' by Sue Cutts, one of Le Creuset's consultants. This recipe makes great use of the marvellous slow cooking properties of Cast Iron cooking...and is simply perfect served with a glass of Pinot Noir!
Manufacturer's Details - Copied here for information:- 'Favoured by professional chefs, cast iron cookware simply obtains the best cooking results from all heat sources. Even heat retention allows cooking efficiency at low or medium temperatures, therefore conserving energy and keeping fuel bills lower. Suitable for any hob-top or pop it in the oven; elegant enough to take to the dinner table.'
Easy to use and clean by hand or pop it in the dishwasher.
With a little care, these cast iron dishes last for years.
Also available in a ROUND shaped version, and in a variety of other colours and sizes - some at really excellent prices, on Amazon, today.
C'est Magnifique - It's Fantastic January 31, 2005 12 out of 13 found this review helpful
Quite possibly one of the best cookware purchases I have ever made. This is an essential purchase if you love slow cooked food. It's almost like a mini oven that keeps all the moisture in. It works from the stovetop to the oven to the table. Fantastic heat retention, perfect for keeping the meat warm while you reduce the sauce in a saucepan. A definate investment for any cook!
