An even healthier way to cook - ideal for fast, low-fat grilling of meat, chicken, fish and vegetables ...... March 20, 2007 Le Creuset SQUARE Grill with integral lifting handles, but don't forget your `Le Creuset' Double Oven Gloves!
Ideal for fast, low-fat grilling of meat, chicken, fish and vegetables - the ribbed base gives those characteristic char-lines and flavour.
Le Creuset `Grill' products are completely covered in vitreous enamel, protecting the surface and making them easier to use and clean, by hand, or pop it in the dishwasher. Sturdy and suitable for all heat sources.'
There has been some criticism re why the Le Creuset `Grill Range' is NOT of the `non-stick' variety.
As one would expect of Le Creuset, the Company responded, and it seems appropriate to copy it here:-
'Why do Le Creuset grills not have a non-stick cooking surface?
Because it isn't necessary. A black vitreous enamel surface can offer all the advantages of a non-stick surface but will not damage, peel or deteriorate during high temperature grilling. No non-stick surface can withstand the repeated high surface temperatures that grilling requires. Therefore a non-stick surface will deteriorate quickly and peel off. Additionally, a non-stick surface will not produce the same seared finish to the food. Cooked food colours are usually paler and the food often has less flavour as a result.'
And that really does say it all!
It is basically a different sort of cooking, but, like everything else, once mastered never forgotten!
In a variety of colours, and in a larger 26 cm RECTANGULAR size, or check out the GIANT GRILL, also available at Amazon.
Good product but not for all heat sources November 22, 2005 12 out of 14 found this review helpful
We have been using one of these for some years on a variety of heat sources and unlike all other Le Creuset products it is not suitable for all heat sources. The main problem is that the base is not flat and this prevents it sitting properly on a surface. Whilst this is fine for gas or in the oven it is no good if you have an induction heat source, eg Aga hotplate. It may be that ours has warped, a possibility suggested by it being a bit thinner than the other grill plate on offer here, but that still warrants a lower rating than the usual 'excellant' that Le Creuset warrant.
