4 out of 5 stars You've Got A Smiling Face!   June 26, 2008
Although one would not like to compare to the `Macarena' or the `Birdie Song', he Motors were essentially a one hit wonder. This was an injustice, as their wonderfully bizarre fusion of synth-pop/AOR/heavy metal/rock `n' roll/new wave was about as unique as anything that has ever occurred in pop/rock history. And, the songs are great! Maybe the fact that the band were not young or fashionable, and that they did not spend a lot of time promoting themselves contributed to their lack of lasting success. But, `Airport' was such a hit record, you'd have thought they could sustain themselves for a lot longer on the backlash of that tracks success. And, it truly was a great record, as are most of the songs on this best of collection. It's worth having this in a record collection, and everyone who has an interest in the history of pop/rock should at least have the song `Airport' somewhere in their collection.

5 out of 5 stars airport: the motors' greatest hits   December 19, 2007
As a teenager I had the LP "approved by the motors" which I absolutely played to death ramming "Airport" down my parent's throats for many months until I stopped listening to LPs in preference for CDs. (The fact that my stylus broke may also have had something to do with it!)

At the time I remember being rather disappointed that such a unique commercially sounding yet gritty rock band could only last a mere three years as the talent was something phenominal. So I was extremely pleased to see them re-release their three albums plus a Greatest Hits on CD last year.

I have to say this is a fantastic compilation which I would recommend wholeheartedly. The song Airport will always be a classic and Forget About You always brings back memories of Match Of The Day !

Yes - Motors Greatest Hits - a wonderful album and fantastic value for money ! You won't be disappointed.

There are indeed some great songs on this disc. Nobody knew where to postion The Motors-somewhere between pub rock, power pop, and punk. Interestingly, I remember their early billboard campaign-"I lost my head over The Motors", with a picture of Jayne Mansfield. Banned. Very punk, don't you think? Anyway, 'Airport' is one of the great singles of the 70's, and you can't tell me that Neil Finn never heard the song 'Today', since it sounds like it could be on a Crowded House album. Lovely song, someone should cover it.

With a couple of forget tracks this is a kick ass album you beat the hell outta me rocks now as it back in the 70s Dancin the night away is still a great sounding track.Get the album as the good ones far outweight the bad.

4 out of 5 stars Dance the night away to.....The Motors   January 20, 2001

One of bands you tried to ignore when they just didn't fit the Punk/New Wave scene. Airport, what a bland idea for a song, - a so so song. So, I rediscover them in the early 2000's cause I'm buying it for a friend's birthday. Well you have to try it out first don't you??

- What have I been missing with some of these tracks, the singles you sort of knew, Love and Loneliness, Forget About You, You Beat the Hell out of Me; and a fantastic repeatable play of an extended version of Dancing the Night Away with a lovely Rickenbacker sound... Bugger
