Better than ever July 21, 2008 This is another great album from this band ,and the best part about it is each song actually sounds different, one of the least generic albums I can think of for a long time. Part of me loves that so few people seem to know and love delays so they play accessible concerts and I feel I have a lovely little secret, but if the general music buying public don't catch on soon I'm worried they'll give it all up. So good I let it play twice in the car before changing CD.:)
Made in Heaven July 18, 2008 Delays have somehow been flying beneath the radar of popular acclaim. Surprising, perhaps, given the renaissance of melodic rock in the UK, courtesy of The Feeling and so on.
Delays, however, are a completely different proposition from The Feeling. No guilty pleasures here, just track after track of soaring, uplifting, exquisitely crafted pop/rock/indie-pop (I'm with XTC - This is Pop!)that will leave you with a smile on your face, a spring in your step, and more than one catchy tune in your head!
I've been a fan of Delays since their first "Faded Seaside Glamour" CD, and wouldn't like to chosse between that CD, this one and the intervening "You'll See Colours" collection. If you're open minded enough to enoy any of them I'm sure, like me, you'll end up buying and enjoying all three of them.
To compare Delays to any other band you might have heard would be selling them short, so tempting though it is, I'll maintain a respectful distance. All I'll say is that, if you enjoy a good tune, beautiful harmonies, all with a rock edge, you'll probably enjoy Delays and should check out this CD.
(As an aside I recently saw the band supporting Crowded House, and was blown away by how good they were live and, in particlar, how Greg Gilbert managed to reproduce his amazing vocal performances in a live setting.)
You See Colours B Sides June 22, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'm a massive Delays fan but this album is entirely filler for me. The lyrics and melodies are empty. There are no standout tunes, everything is predictable and cheesy. There isn't a single song that matches the worst song on their previous album in my opinion. I hope they move on for the next one!
hooray! The delays are on fire! May 30, 2008 Simply brilliant, refreshing and different.
Why oh why this did not get to number 1 in the albumn charts i do not know?
Another great masterpeace from the lads, the delays must be the biggest secret in the music industry.
It also disapoints me why the radio stations dont play more of the dealys, if they did they would achieve top flight musican status they desrve!
The best yet? May 27, 2008 I waited what felt like an eternity for this album and it doesn't disappoint. This is an awesomw album and every song is very listenable (is that even a word?!). Summer album of the year...buy iy now!
