Good for starters. July 21, 2008 A good album if youre a casual Led Zep fan and are just getting in to them but if you want to hear the great Led Zeppelin you'll have to buy all 3 definitive Led zep cd's.
Great CD May 27, 2008 I spent my youth in the 70's listening to Abba and Boney M. Now, in my 40's, I buy this excellent CD and realise what I missed. For others like me I recommend this album, 'Hammer of the Gods' by Stephen Davis (which tells their unbelievable story entertainingly), and videos from their gigs in the 70's from youtube.
Splendid! ..And they really do sound GREAT!!! May 27, 2008 I can't add any more to what's already been said in earlier reviews, but I doubt that just these tracks alone have been "re-remastered". Surely the re mastering engineer will have worked on the entire catalogue, wouldn't he?
It's my hope that one day soon, these definitive 2007 re-remasterings will find their way into the traditional CD/download of the complete albums.
Wonderful TIMELESS music that hasn't really dated at all. This band could play, and play many different styles often in one album, giving real pleasure to the listener - and something to return to over thirty years plus.
Enough of this. if you still doubt that CD can "do it," then buy this and see what can be done to these old recordings.
(An LP issue of this for 70? Do leave off.....;) )
RECOMMENDED!!!!!!!!!
A very impressive and entertaining introduction. January 10, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I had heard of Led Zeppelin but apart from 'Stairway to Heaven' did not know their music. I must admit, I always found the song I knew to be rather boring. I am first and foremost a country music fan who also likes Springsteen, Young, Seger, Dire Straits etc. I say all this because this is not a review from a Led Zeppelin fan as such, just a music fan. Why did I buy this?! I was given Plant and Krauss's superb album and was impressed by Plant's voice. I went to see Uncle Earl whose last album was produced by John Paul Jones and he performed at the show. I also read the praise the group and this collection was getting so I thought I would give it a go. I am pleased I did. It is a thoroughly entertaining 2 CD set of rock hard and soft with numerous outstanding performances. I was particularly impressed with Whole Lotta Love, Immigrant Song, Black Dog, When the levee breaks and Trampled Under Foot. I was even impressed with Stairway to Heaven. Great singing, great musicianship, great songs and rock music at its best. A great introduction to a group that appears to deserve its legendary status. I can see me buying more of their albums. Recommended.
The Gods Of Rock January 7, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I would just like to put in some very minor abuse for those who still, after all these years, cannot appreciate Led Zeppelin's music. Girls Aloud? WHAT??? If you need uplifting, listen to the entire song. Just lie back, turn up the stereo, and let Jimmy Page and Robert Plant tickle your spine as you air-guitar your way through Babe I'm Gonna Leave You or when the Levee Breaks...Led Zeppelin are, in my fairly unbiased 19-year-old view of modern music, still the most gifted and influential musicians on the planet. The Original and Best Rockers, brought back to modern taste with this brilliant remastering. Listen Loud, and Listen Hard.
