1 out of 5 stars American High School Crap   July 7, 2008
This..is..just..God..awful.

After hearing the opening Hey There Delilah on the radio, I suddenly felt an urge to bathe myself in sulphuric acid and ram pencils in my ears. And then there's the rest. If you thought it couldn't get any worse than the terrible opener, it just does. Maybe an inspiration to brain dead monkeys that they too can come up with this sort of crap, but an inspiration to the rest of us it is not. The constant wailing and irritating voice of that singer makes me sure that my arse could sing better and the lyrics will drive anyone to suicide. I am infact writing this review from beyond the grave, and then I'll probably go to hell as a punishment for listeing to this absolute drivel. This music is the sort of awful crap you hear on those terrible American teen shows where everyone goes 'whatever!' and 'like you know' - you know what I mean, all that stuff that's on E4 and you want to kick the TV screen in and crap on it.

Only buy it if your a confused, acne ridden American in one of those awful high schools. For the rest of us, the CD will do nicely to cut cheese with.

4 out of 5 stars It's a grower   February 18, 2008
I'll admit, I bought the album because of Hey There Delilah, I heard that on the radio and liked it so I thought I'd give the album a go. I didn't like it at first but after a couple of listens in the car, it really started to grow on me! It's not high brow or hard rock by any stretch of the imagination, if anything it's quite cheesy but it's well done and catchy. It was good enough to make me look into their back catalogue. Overall, I recommend it.

3 out of 5 stars Plain White T's - Every Second Counts   February 15, 2008
I like this band, though I realise their limits musically. I'll be honest, this is an alright album with a couple of standout tracks, nothing more, nothing less, yet there is something naive in the music, a vulnerability and honesty in the lyrics that makes me come back to the album to listen again and again. Most of the songs (all of them in fact) have the same basic story, boy loves girls, boy writes song for girl, (and usually girl doesn't love boy back) and the music itself is nothing too special, the lyrics cheesy and predictable, yet the songs work, and the album is an simple, effortless listen that I keep coming back to when I want some music to take me away. I recommend this album, not as a great work of art, but as a collection of 14 songs with at least one of which I'm sure everyone can relate to at one point in their lives.

`Hey There Delilah' 4/5 - No doubt the reason why the majority of listeners even considered buying this album. A sweet, touching love song, with a beautiful acoustic guitar backing. I'm surprised that this is the first song on the album however, considering it's the only one of it's kind on here, and although it probably deserves 5/5, I have heard it far too many times for it still to be able to blow me away.

`Our Time Now' 3/5 - I imagine this would be awesome to hear live - a fun, lively song with standard lyrics and a good beat. But y problem with it is, nothing special.

`Come Back To Me' 5/5 - My personal favourite on the whole album, I get the feeling these lyrics are from the heart, and I never get tired of listening to this one. Even if you don't buy the album, I recommend at least downloading this track - it's one that you won't be able to get out of your head!

`Hate (I Really Don't Like You)' 3.5/5 - I love the guitar in this one. A decent song with lyrics that I think everyone has been able to relate to at one point or other. It's an alright song but with all the new music out and about these days I hardly think it's one to stick in people memories as anything special.

`You And Me' 2/5 - Although fitting in with the whole theme of the album, I'm not a fan of this one. I find it tedious and lacking in anything really outstanding. Some of the lyrics don't seem to fit in with the beat very well either which is a shame - the lyrics are one of the biggest strengths of the album, so a song with poor lyrics needs something very special to save it - and this doesn't have it.

`Friends Don't Let Friends Dial Drunk' 4.5/5 - I love this one. I know I keep referring back to the lyrics, but they are what really stand out to me in this album, possibly Plain White T's biggest strength, and this song is no exception. I assume the band wrote their own lyrics (though I haven't checked this so I may be wrong) but I find it brilliant how they can turn a simple 3 minute songs into stories that people can genuinely relate to.

`Making A Memory' `3/5 - Ok song once again, nothing special to say about this one. Quite chilled out.

`So Damn Clever' 1/5 - Not a fan of this one. Same as with `You And Me' - fits in with the rest of the album but by itself a boring song with clichéd lyrics.

`Tearin' US Apart' 3/5 - Listen to this one with both headphones in - I love the part where the guitar plays alternatively in each headphone. I like the lyrics to this one, but they're so damn repetitive which really lets the whole song down.

`Write You A Song' 4.5/5 - I think this is the closest song to `Hey There Delilah' in the whole album, so if anyone's considering buying this album purely from listening to HTD then definitely have a quick listen to some other songs of the album so you're not disappointed. What can I say, whoever this song was written for was a lucky girl =)

`Gimme A Chance' 3/5 - The first 15 seconds or so of this song sound promising - then the rest is kind of standard and lets it down. I love how easy the lyrics are to relate to in these songs.

`Figure It Out' 2/5 - A fun, interesting beat, but I just find it boring. There's a surprise =)

`Let Me Take You There' 3/5 - Parts of this remind me of Radiohead/Muse. The rest just reminds me of all the hundreds of other pop/rock bands out there.

`Take Me Away' 4/5 - This one makes me smile. Pretty much sums up what the whole album is about, and plays to the bands strengths. Good ending to a decent album.
