2 out of 5 stars Nice Singles, Poor Album   June 9, 2008
So I have waited a while to judge this album and I have to admit that I was keen to download it based on Chris Brown's previous album. Now not the use of the word... album. His eponymously titled debut album was a soooolid album. Very good melow cuts on the album which satisfied me with some good R&B music for a little while. I liked the singles but the album as a whole was one that I found I did not hit the skip button. This album is a very, very different type. I suspect it is because Chris Brown and or his record label decided that we are going to make a collage from many pieces and like a lot of collages it just ends up looking an inconsistent mess from a distance despite some otherwise high quality portions and ingredients.

There are too many producers on this album. Way too many. This album lacks consistency all the way through. If I would you I would seriously download the individual songs that came out like With You, Kiss Kiss, Wall to Wall etc. Am I the only one to notice that the guy who is probably not even 20 yet is wearing a suit on the cover of his second album? I know Justin Timberlake did this but how many millions of copies of his album, Grammy awards and sold out venues later do we know that FutureSex/LoveSounds was a smash. Chris Brown is trying too hard and enlisted far too many people to pull together hits. Like his threads, this doesn't suit him. He needs more consistency throughout this album and not a chance to work with Kanye, T-Pain, Scott Storch, Stargate because everyone wants to work with them.

The singles are easy to remember, radio friendly and singable but the album is largely forgettable. This proves to me that Usher is again the reigning champ of R&B in an age of too many youngsters that don't stick out and when R Kelly might be a little distracted at the moment.

5 out of 5 stars Wow   March 3, 2008

I didn't really know too much about Chris Brown when I bought this album, but I am really glad I took the gamble and got it! Wow. It really makes an impact on the first listen.

And having just discovered he's only 18 I'm even more shocked at just how good it is. There are some great collaborations too, it's just a really, really enjoyable album to listen to. In my opinion he has a mixture of the smooth-talking lyrics of Joe, with the infectious sound of Usher's catchy vibes. If you like either of those artists, you're sure to like this too.

Highly recommended!

the album is worth a purchase, on the first listen the album seems ok, but after the second and third listen you realise that the album is fantastic, since buying the album it gets played everyday in my car. compared to other recent purchases; you wont be disappointed.
