Thriller 25th Anniversary
Originally released in the US 25 years ago on November 30, 1982 by Epic Records, Thriller, Michael Jackson's sixth solo album and second with producer Quincy Jones, rocketed the former child-star and lead singer for the Jackson 5 into the stratosphere of international super-stardom. Introducing the "robot" and the "moonwalk" into the international lexicon of clubland dance moves via the pulsing sounds of Thriller, Michael Jackson revolutionised all aspects of mainstream pop culture--from radio airwaves to the newly emerging art form of music videos--becoming the world's most popular entertainer in the process. The original Thriller spent an astounding 80 consecutive weeks in the American Top 10, 37 of those at No. 1. Seven of the album's original nine tracks became Top 10 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 while individual singles from Thriller reached No. 1 chart positions in the US, the UK, France, Italy, Australia, Denmark, Belgium, South Africa, Spain, Ireland, New Zealand, and Canada. Thriller made history as the first and only record to be America's top-selling album two years running (1983 and 1984). In February 1984, Michael Jackson held a record-breaking 12 Grammy nominations, going on to win eight, which stands as the record for most Grammy Awards to be won by anyone in a single year. Seven of Michael's Grammys that year were for Thriller: Album of the Year; Record of the Year ("Beat It"); Best Male Pop Vocal Performance ("Thriller"); Best Engineered Recording, Non-Classical (Thriller); Best Male Rock Vocal Performance ("Beat It"); Best Male R&B Vocal Performance ("Billie Jean"); Best R&B Song ("Billie Jean"). (Michael's eighth Grammy that year was in the Best Recording for Children--Single or Album, Musical or Spoken category for "E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial"). That same year, Michael Jackson took home eight American Music Awards and three MTV Video Music Awards. The following year, "The Making of Michael Jackson's Thriller" took home the Best Video Album trophy at the 27th Annual Grammy Awards.

'Great Sounding Worthwhile Addition To Thriller's Legacy' March 24, 2008 While I am not one of the people that claim that Michael has never produced anything of real worth since this album, listening again now to 'Thriller' you can perhaps understand why some people think that way. Everyone of you will know all of the tracks from the original album off by heart so I will not go into detail about any of them suffice to say that the remastering process really HAS given all of the songs a new lease of life. I have listened so many times to the original vinyl versions of most of these songs but NEVER have I heard the subtleties of the percussion on 'Wanna Be Startin Somethin' so clearly as on this release. The irony of all this being that it's actually the remastered ORIGINAL tracks that make this album such an essential purchase and not the 'remixes' or 'extras'. To say that the remixed versions are awful however would be a mistake. While none of them can compare to the genius of the originals, they do serve as an interesting 'diversion' and as such ADD to the value of this release if not to it as an album if you see what I mean. Best of all the remixed songs is 'P.Y.T 2008' with will.i.am. As the original song was not one of 'Thriller's most leading lights, it has perhaps suffered less from a new approach and wills version is one I will enjoy listening to again. The tragedy of these remixes however is that they all smack of 'good friends trying to help out' and essentially say more about the remixers than the remixed (Jackson). The contemporary unreleased 'For All Time' is a nice song to end on and would have been just as at home on the original album as any of the other songs. It is quite obviously an alternate take to what turned out to be 'Human Nature' and while nice as it is, the better song DID make the album. Still, yearning now, as we all are, to hear something of anywhere near the quality of this album from Michael, it sounds great as serves as a reminder to what the man can do. Curiously, as 'For all Time' is actually sounds rather like Porter Wagonner's classic song 'I'd Really Love To See You Tonight'. Add to all of this some great packaging, a colourful booklet and a DVD full of memories and this album truly is a 25th anniversary CELEBRATION. Don't miss it!

Brilliant! The classic Thriller album with a twist!
I have to say at first I was a little disappointed as we could have done with some more unreleased songs and I wasn't 100% about the remixes- but I have to say after listening to them a couple of times I'm LOVING them! I hadn't even heard any of will.i.am's songs before but he has done a very good job!!
A nice hardback cover with some great pictures- old and new....a definate collectors item.
An absolute must for all MJ fans!
Perfection with a New Twist February 16, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
For those people who aren't familiar with Michael Jackson's Thriller, this is the best selling album of all time! 104 million copies sold in 25 years, thats 4.16 million albums sold every year since its release. It has also received a record 8 Grammy Awards!!
This album is a 25th anniversary edition with a special Hardback Cover. On one side it has the Original cover in Foil, and on the other side it has the new Zombie cover in foil. It also contains a booklet with exclusive photos and a special message from Michael himself.
The album itself contains all the original songs from the Thriller Album in Remastered form for improverd sound. It then contains 5 remixes by the biggest artists today including Will I Am, Akon, Fergie, and Kanye West. These remixes give an updated sound and I believe they are the best songs you hear in todays music. Will I Am effort to update two classic songs (Girl is mine and P.Y.T.) have been executed with almost perfection and they sound new and fresh, which is what the music industry need these days. Akon's take of Wanna Be Starting Something, with his vocals and refreshed beat really is good. Fergie's Beat It and Kanye West's Billie Jean are also good but these songs will always sound cool. To improve these is just an impossible task, but it does make a good change. In addition to all of this it also contains a new exclusive song from Michael himself, "For All Time", this proves he still has the magic for music.
To put the icing and cherry on top of the gorgeous cake, this album also comes with a DVD of Michael's breathtaking music videos of Beat It, Billie Jean and Thriller in their full, uncut and remastered forms. In addition to all of this, this DVD also contains the Iconic and Legendary performance of Billie Jean at Motown 25.
Overall this is a worthy Re-Release of the most successful album of all time and it is worthy of everybody's music collection. If you weren't around when Thriller was originally released, then be a part of it and get this. If you were around when Thriller was released, then this is a worthy update for your collection.
Michael Jackson: Thriller February 16, 2008 This album needs no introduction, so I'll get down to it. The nine songs that originally appeared on the album are mostly very good (there are a couple of duds, but they're cancelled out by the rest). The three big ones on this album are `Beat It, `Billie Jean' and the titular `Thriller' all of which are excellent and everything that needs to be has already been said about them. This 25th anniversary edition includes five remixes which are rubbish, except for `Beat It' which is almost a cover sung by Fergie and `Billie Jean' which is virtually the same. Also included is an unreleased track, `For All Time' and an excerpt from the recording of `Thriller' the song: Vincent Price saying a few words then giving the final laugh of the song. The DVD comes with videos for the Big Three and the legendary Motown performance where he debuted his signature move, The Moonwalk. The cardboard case is styled like a book with the CD in a slipcase in the front cover and the DVD in the back cover; both discs are gold in colour. In the middle is the book containing pictures, lyrics and credits. All in all, an excellent album and well put together; it's just a shame about the remixes. Also his next work is much better than this. Highlights: `Thriller', `Beat It', `Billie Jean'.

What is Difference? February 12, 2008 2 out of 7 found this review helpful
What is difference between this and Original Cover? Before this album's name was the same, but the cover was Zombie cover. And someone changed it and another one called zombie cover. So, what is differences with this and Original cover. I see the same things. I bought 2 versions of this album and I'm still waiting. If they comes with the same covers and no differences between them (because; when I bought, cover was different than the original cover), I'll write here. So be careful when you're making pre-order. Because, someone can change pictures without your information. As far as possible, don't make pre-order, wait and be sure what you're buying...
But Thriller is the best album of all time. I don't want to hear any other voice in Thriller. We wanted just Michael, not others... Just Micael can sing classics... And I bought 2 versions of this, for just Michael.
Five stars goes to Thriller, not shopping...
