The voice March 5, 2008 It's a tricky business opening an album with one of the best songs ever. How can the rest of the album not pale in comparison? Here's Marvin's answer, and while nothing quite matches 'Let's get it on', this would still be a good album even without the title cut. This is Marvin at his smooth sensual best, and his voice was never better - sublime, sexy singing. This album sets down the template for the whole bedroom soul genre - as Marvin says in his sleevenote: "Have your sex, it can be very exciting, if you're lucky. I hope the music I present here makes you lucky."
Sensual, sexy and smooth... March 13, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I love Marvin and I love this album. I don't think it was Marvin's best but it is a solid album and the first in which Marvin blantantly showcases his sexuality which was always waiting to come out but which marvin had tried to hide. There is of course the classic title track which speaks for itself but my favourite tracks are 'Come get to this' and 'You sure love to ball' which are amazingly sexy songs and marvins voice just sounds divine on them. Other notable tracks are 'Please stay' and 'distant lover' which follow the similiar theme of begging for a lover to return. It is of course a lovers album probably first and foremost as all the tracks have a sensual theme or mood about them but I also think its just a chilled mellow album that you can listen to when you want to relax.I would recommend this album to all fans of marvin as it is an amazing album sung by an amazing and legendary talent.
Listen to it and listen again! October 31, 2006 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
ok a few words because words do a disservice to this great work...but as with all Marvin's seventies work you need to listen to this out loud and then again with headphones to truly appreciate the subtleties of the recording, the brass work, the strings, his multi-vocal parts, truly amazing!

There are no words!...... November 9, 2005 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
The magnificance of this album is almost indescribable. Being 21 years old, I was born slightly after Marvin had died, but nonetheless I am a huge fan of his music. Most people will have heard 'let's get it on' and even if that was the only good song on the album it would be worth buying. however, the other songs are all at least as good or even better than the title track, particularly 'Just to Keep you Satisfied' and 'Distant Lover'. A refreshing change from the albums of nowadays which usually consist of 2 or 3 good singles and fillers.
