The rise and rise of New Orleans April 14, 2008
Funk is a word which reminds me of the boring music of James Brown or the people who do all that Maggot brain funkadelic crap but this is the real thing The word was conjured up in New Orleans and means basically "sweaty".
Linking up to psychedlia killed the music for me but New Orleans carried on as a major force well into the 70s when it began leasing to a Mississipi label called Malaco

Yes, this is the album that features the soundtrack to this year's fabulous Boots ad. While nothing for me can trump Ernie K-Doe's fantastic track, there are a hell of a lot of fine artists on this record. Thoroughly recommended.

Nearly every song in this collection is amazing. Funk with an edge. Very addictive. One of the best from the Souljazz range.

Another fantastic album from Soul jazz records November 10, 2000

If you thought that New Orleans funk was just The Meters then you were wrong. True, the Neville brothers appear in a variety of guises throughout this album, but with Lee Dorsey, Professor Longhair and Dr John all chipping in there's never really a dull moment. Taking up where Booker T and the MGs left off but pre George Clinton and Parliament this puts the history of funk into perspective. A wonderful New Orleans gumbo of an album with fantastic liner notes. And Zig Modeliste is God!
