The build quality of the nikon 50mm f1.4 lens is very fine but only marginally better compared to its cheaper partner. The outer barrel is made of good quality polycarbonate with a sleek finish. The bayonet ring is made of metal which make it more durable. The small rubberized focus ring operates very smooth and because of this you can used it as manual lens in mechanical Nikon slrs. As you can see above the lens extends a little bit towards closer focus distances. The front element does not rotate so using a polarizer is no problem. The Nikon 50 f1.4 lens has no internal AF motor and relies on a slotted drive screw operated by the camera. As a result AF operation will generate a moderate noise. The AF speed is very decent on the Nikon D200. in low light it performs great as you do not need the use of flashgun at f/1.4 I have taken some shots with it in the zoo with my Nikon d200 camera it gave me the best shots I ever seen, it cost me under £200 and gives the best result than the costly Nikon 85mm f1.4d lens, I will recommend this lens to any one who is looking for the best portrait lens. |
