Frustratingly weak June 29, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Bought this mower in 2005, and it is still gong 3 years on. That's not to say that I have ever been totally satisfied with it though. I have managed to get the stripes, which gives a pleasing effect afterwards, however the actual mowing experience is not good. it can't handle damp lawns, and long grass needs to be done twice. Rather than a clean cut, the grass is flayed at the tips, which was what I was trying to avoid in getting a cylinder mower. I'd avoid this one - it is far too weak and flimsy.
Not on new turf - no don't do it June 17, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a pathetic mower and tends to tear at the grass. If used on new turf it will rip it up. It doesn't like long grass. It doesn't like damp grass. It doesn't produce stripes. Does anyone know what the clip at the base of the handle is for? It just makes folding it up a pain. I've persevered for a couple of years with this (don't ask me why) and am going to try a different brand. I thought Qualcast was supposed to be good - not any more?
Eclipse 320 May 7, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This mower does not cut grass it flattens it. the motor is not man enought for the job either. the cross bar that actuates with the cylinder blades to cut the grass is too thick and just jams on the mud. save your self the 100 which is high too. Qualcast make great rotaries, have just bought a qualcast rotary excellent and 40% cheaper. Previously had a turbo vac which was excellent also.
Don't buy it ! May 4, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The only good thing if found is that it is easy to use but don't expect good performance: the grass box needs emptying constantly or else the cut grass spewed back out of the grass box. The rollers tend to flatten the grass and the cut is very uneven. I bought it less than 18 months ago - used it only a few time and ... it is broken already: the motor ceased turning the blades !
Qualcast used to be reputable August 20, 2007 18 out of 18 found this review helpful
I've had Qualcast mowers before, but am horrified at the quality and reliability of this model. It is terrible. I bought it in December 2006 and, being winter, never used it until spring. It is cheaply made, low grade plastic, most of the main components like the hadle hinges and the height adjuster are plastic. When I started to use it I thought, this will never last. I was right. Now, in July 2007 after 3 months use it's useless. It will not cut, and you cannot align the blades to cut properly. Too close to the basplate and it makes a terrible noise, open the gap and it does not cut. Worse thing though is that I find that Amazon will not take it back, even though it has a 12 month guarantee, and 5 years on parts. I'd like to see one of these pieces of junk lasting 2 years, let alone 5.
