2 out of 5 stars Not a typical Bosch - could easily be much better   July 13, 2008
My AMR 32 has the feel of the B&D lawnraker that I had 20 years ago, worked over by a production engineer so that some of the parts are cheap & nasty, but not by someone who has thought about what a gardener wants. Safety and practicality are poor.

On the good side: up to a point (see below), the AMR 32 does rake well (much less tiring than by hand.) But it could so easily be better - easier to use, more effective and safer.

The bad features: the power lead is short and fixed, the control switch is awkward (and strictly right-handed), thatch collection is poor, the revolving tines are exposed and close to where thatch collects in front of the box, the collecting box projects a long way in front and is difficult to attach and detach (except by accident.)

Up to a point; that point is only 12 metres from the socket outlet (the lead is fixed - so no option of using the 20m lead from my Flymo), and 50cm from any shrub or wall (the collecting box projects a long way in front, but still collects only part of the thatch - a rear-mounted box would be more convenient.)

The box detaches easily when you run into a shrub (emptying out what is in there in the process) but removing the box by hand is harder - there are 3 plastic lugs, one of which always sticks. Collection is poor - thatch piles up on the lip of the box. It is tempting to reach forward and clear this whilst keeping the tines are running (because the switch is poor.) The instructions say that the box should always be used, but it is not clear why - any stone thrown by the tines would clear the box.

(n.b. I bought this lawnraker in April 2007 but current stock seems similar.)

2 out of 5 stars Great brand. Poor performance.   May 5, 2008

I bought this product based on the Bosch brand. However it is an insubstancial machine and the grass collection box simply does not work well. It gets clogged easily and needs constant clearing to make any progress. It works well without the collecting box but that just means extra work. As it is a Bosch it will probably last longer than my patience.

Although the construction doesn't appear very robust, it performs remarkably well. Trying to manually rake a lawn of any size is back-breaking work & therefore this electric lawn rake / scarifier works a treat.

The grass collection box is small and does require frequent emptying. It is suprising how much moss & thatch that normal lawnmowing isn't able to remove.

After a couple of years use in both spring and autumn(also using feed & weed granules), my lawns are totally transformed.

The raking mechanism is fine, but the 'collection' is poor. One needs to stop frequently to clear the grass etc. from the top of the tines and move it into the collection box. One can only hope the on/off switch is sufficiently robust to take the exrta workload!

2 out of 5 stars First disappointment with Bosch   September 27, 2004

Normally a reliable brand name but this machine is very disappointing. The grass tends to collect in front of the cutting tines and not in the box. Also box holds very little grass, moss etc. Have to scarify with machine without box and use lawnmower to collect debris.
