Amazon.co.uk Review: In a nutshell: The game previously known as Bully is Rockstar's most controversial title yet - despite the fact that almost everything that's been written about it in the tabloids is wrong. You play the bullied not the bully in a cleverly observed pastiche of school life. The lowdown: Although this bares comparison to both Grand Theft Auto (in terms of the large freeform world and highly interactive environments) and The Warriors (the combat system is nearly identical) this is very different to Rockstar's other games. Although you are supposed to attended lessons each day (doing well gives you new abilities and items) you're free to explore Bulworth Academy at leisure with a wide range of missions from raiding the girl's dormitory and fetching transistors for the local tramp to protecting nerds from bullies. In fact that the whole game is about surviving the school experience and making friends and ironically has a far more moral point to make than any of Rockstar's previous titles. Most exciting moment: Although you can get into fist fights with other students there's never any blood shed, just the odd pulled ear or Chinese burn. There are plenty of other school yard pranks you can pull of though with the judicious use of catapults, stink bombs and cherry bombs. You can also make out with girls (or boys if you so desire) if you can find a way to get on their good side. Since you ask: There have been numerous calls for the game to be banned in both the U.S. and UK, although tellingly all such calls were made long before the game was even previewed and were based solely on the name. The final product is only rated 15+ and features only mild amounts of violence. The bottom line: One of the most original games for years and far more wholesome than its reputation suggests.-HARRISON DENT

great game but could have been longer! March 10, 2008 i bought got this game for my birthday and i can just put it one way! a+!! the idea of a grand theft auto like game but is set in a school is unique. the only downside to this game is the length. it features 6 chapters which i can say is not enough and they arnt that long but still five star game! i reccomend this game to everyone who likes the gta series
Fun, Fun, Fun! February 14, 2008 I adore this game, it keeps me totally entertained for hours on end. Regardless of whether you have or haven't played any Rockstar games before, you will most likely enjoy this, because as you can see the majority of reviews have given it three stars or above. This is certainly one of my favourite games on the ps2, brilliant.
One of a kind fun January 23, 2008 Sheer brilliance- the only one of its kind and still better than all its slowly built up competetors, a must buy for any gamer.
Finally, Skool Daze gets an update. January 20, 2008 Any older gamers who grew up playing the humble spectrum 48k will no doubt remember the classic Skool Daze. It was one of my faves and a game I still play thanks to PC emulation software.
If, like me, you were a fan of Skool Daze, then you will love this.
It's worth noting that the fuss generated by this game was the usual right wing press reaction to something they had only heard rumours about. Even the 15 cert is a bit harsh as there is no bad language and the violence is cartoon like. The average episode of Eastenders is nastier than this game and you don't hear the Sun and the Daily Mail calling for it to be banned.
Good game- but not great October 23, 2007 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
There are a few things you notice quickly after purchasing this game. One is that the controversy surrounding it is rather amusing, as it's extremely tame compared to its reputation. In fact when you consider Manhunt and GTA games are allowed to be released, it's incredible there were talks of banning this. There is bullying in this game, not usually by you, and if there wasn't, it would hardly be a realistic school game, would it? I've already mentioned GTA, and thats a big problem for this game- the comparisons with one of the most successful game series of all time. Because it isn't quite there. Maybe it's an English thing, but I find the character I play, whose supposed to be a (reasonably) good guy, at least with his heart in the right place, very hard to like. I think I actually shouted at him to shut up when he started yelling "whose da man? I am" after beating a boss. And it's quite annoying being busted because you accidently hit a stupid girl or adult who gets in your way. It is also much easier than most games. I'm not someone who is really very good at games, but i've completed most missions with just one attempt- only a few special missions gave me much challenge. As I tend to get fustrated easily, this could be seen as good or bad- but I would recommend a hardcore gamer to rent it, because they'll complete it in a few days.
But on the whole, this is an enjoyable game. You really feel the Canadians have put some effort into this, the school area being quite interactive, and it feels very playable, for example letting you save in town is helpful. I think the most loving touch is creating every school pupil individually- rather than the repeating clones that you see in most games. Each pupil has their own name, shown when you have to take their photos for the yearbook. Others complain about how annoying the classes are, but you should be able to complete a couple of classes, like Chemistry and Gym, quite early. And even when you are truanting, it is often little trouble to avoid prefects and cops, as you are the fastest person in bullworth. Some individual characters have interesting, well developed characters, keeping the storyline engaging. And there is some genuine good humour in the game.
I would certainly be interested in any possible sequel, which I think would be good, improving on the faults of this game.
So overall, I would say to buy this game, it isn't very much, particularly if you are a weaker gamer, and not to be put off by any moral problems you think the game might have- even Mary Whitehouse would have trouble banning it.
