Amazon.co.uk Review Final Fantasy X-2 is the first-ever direct sequel to appear in Square's legendary Final Fantasy series of role-playing adventure games. Here the emphasis is placed squarely on the all-female trio of adventurers who make up the player's role-playing team. At the forefront is Yuna, of Final Fantasy X, who makes a heroic return just in time for another wild adventure. What's more, these girls have more about them than most all-girl manufactured pop groups; then, too, they remain at the cutting edge of fashion throughout the game, thanks to a system of costume changes. The game itself is classically typical of the series, sending players on epic missions in a fantastical world of monsters and spectacular otherworldly scenery. This is not a game you'll play for a couple of hours and then forget: Final Fantasy X-2 demands attention--tens of hours' worth. X-2 is a most interesting experiment: the series' feminine side has never been played on as strongly as it has here, and twee features such as Japanese pop music and sporting events feature more prominently than ever before. But it's more than a mere tangent--at its core, Final Fantasy X-2 is a cracking RPG. --Jonti Davies

Pick-up-and-drop or play-a-lot. June 21, 2008 I found this game to be rather fun, even though it came at the end of my PS2 era before going back to PC gaming.
I was not a big fan of earlier FF games (just not my style) but picked this one up on some weird impulse, as it was supposed be different. And is it. I'm not sure about the girlieisation, or the way the dresspheres work. But the action-point style combat was more fluid than I thought.
Things that impressed me:- Graphics: Very good, Japanese-cartoony as one expects from anime style visualisation. Setting: One of the few "worlds" that contains technology and magic, but doesn't fall on it's face. Story: Reasonable, about what I would expect from this sort of game. Music: A bit teen/girlie but (as anticipated given the box art and trailer I'd seen), but better than expected.
The only thing I really disliked was how fussy the game is to get the "full 100%" game-over/outtro, not that the regular "good" one is that bad though. Effectively requiring you to play the game solidly through 100% not missing the tiniest detail. Twice. Was quite annyoyed when I found that out. Minus one star of the "fun rating" for that.
Summary: Good game that I think should only disappoint a macho dude or a hardcore fan of the older format of FF games.
A fair opinion June 19, 2008 As a huge Final Fantasy fan and an optimist, I have tried to love every single FF series and even FFX-2. In fact, I did have some fan playing the game because this game is actually provide some more traditional FF series game with ATB and many traditional accessories and magic. Sphere system is so-so, but in my opinion, it is not as terrible as some of the reviewers that hated it so much. A lot of other RPG games provided worse skill systems than it. In game play, the sphere system actually keep you busy for a while (please make the dress changing short in configuration if you did not know). Characters are quite annoying though even they are pretty nice to look at. Replay value of this game is actually higher than other FF games and at least Yuna does not hit 99999 by her physical attacks, which is just ridiculous in FF10. Some of the bosses in Trema's temple are actually provide some good challenges when you play it that far.
However, it is DEFINITELY the worst FF series I have ever played. Music was terrible, I fallen sleep listening to that. Storyline is terrible and it is always one of the best advantages in FF series. A slightly better or the same level in game play and a little bit improvement in replay value does not give enough advantage to take away the best things in FF games. Nothing is challenging throughout the game except some of the most boring and tedious mini-games in order to get some of the dress spheres and accessories which at times are useless as well.
For Final Fantasy fans, I still recommend you to get the game because I think you should be crazy enough to appreciate some minor merits this game provided. Non-FF fans or new players, I really don't recommend this game. It will be a waste of your money because you might not even touch this game after you spend about 1 hour on it.
Enix is a leech. Just look at what it's doing to Square!!! September 29, 2007 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Doesn't it seem an awfully big coincidence that as soon as Squaresoft become SquareEnix, the games begin to get worse and worse? Now this game isn't awful but they are starting to try and become something they are not.
'Oh wow!! You get to chnage there dresses!!! That totally makes this game worth getting!'...we don't need some crazy cutscene with them changing their dresses. It's just a jazzed up version of the job system in FF5 which I think was very weak. It may let you customise your party but parameters just evaporate... 'I'm a Dark Knight I have high strength...ooh now I'm a Black Mage and I have low strength tee hee hee look at how versatile I am.' It's just plain irritating.
The story is attempting to carry on the story which I think was very nicely concluded in FF10. However this new story is very dry and because of it they have crammed it full with so many side quests to hide this fact that the side quests actually outweigh the real story filled with incompetent villains (A women with a heart tattoe, with two henchman: one fat and one thin...kind of cliched don't you think?)and a bunch of other cliched characters (paine is an absolute pain). And the sidequests are mission based to make it seem like something worthwhile...when they are really random and pointless. Especially near the end where they steal the obvious and flawed random dungeon idea and make it even more boring. Oh yeah and sphere break? Sphere break!? What are you doing?
OK the FMVs are impressive... but they don't require story creativity and just require expensive computers and graphic design. All this they had before Enix appeared and allied with Squaresoft. Enix are the reason they're going downhill, I mean FF12 was awful. We need to stop Enix before there is no Square left and they'll be called Enixsoft. THE HORROR!!!
Now I may be exagerating a bit. This game isn't awful and Enix did contribute a little ('Um...how about when you press circle you can jump. Will that cover up the fact we ruined the storyline?) but you need to know that this is NOT a FF experience. Your best bet is to by FF7, FF8, FF9, FF10...or any of them in fact if you want a good old fashioned final fantasy. Stay away from this until your sober...or know what you're doing. Please. Viva La Resistance!!!
get on with it......... September 13, 2007 i hadn't come across any of the series before FF X..........presumably this was intended to appeal to women who are under-represented among gamers but tend to prefer less violent games. however although i think the graphics are lovely and i like the characters, i get very bored with endless battles that hold up the story and i get particularly bored with getting killed all the time and having to repeat bits you've already played. (although i get real satsfaction out of finally beating some damn monster that's been giving me grief for hours, so much for being less violent..........) on the whole i think the game is great, just too slow to get on with the story.......

To say that it is a sequel to one of the best RPGs on the play station...I'd rather that I never bothered. There are some pretty cutscenes, and the singy bits are nice to look at...but other than that...Their costumes were designed for dirty old men to get off on, and the story leaves lots to be desired, and I was thoroughly disappointed by the 'perfect' ending. I don't particularly like the battle system and blitzball has gone rather down the pan. the only good bit was when I looked at the mission screen at the end and everything was all "chapter complete"...that's another thing, actually...MISSIONS! noooooooo! what were square thinking?
