Players will take control of anti-hero Alex Mercer, who wakes up in a mysterious laboratory as an experiment with no memory of his past. The world of Prototype is engulfed in a three-way conflict between the military, a mutated viral epidemic, and Mercer -- who has become a weapon in his own right. The whole game is built around the idea of "weaponizing" yourself. Mercer can absorb his enemies, taking on their memories and appearance.

You are a shape shifter - the Prototype. Consume and become anyone; hide in plain sight as a normal human and mix and match genetic traits to create incredible never-before-seen deadly biological weapons. Consume people and gain their skills, knowledge and personality. Fight a secret war against a conspiracy out to capture or kill you; defeat it before it threatens the survival of New York itself.

1 out of 5 stars Possibly the worst game ever released.   July 7, 2008

I played it this weekend. Absolutely appalling. There's only one level. Most of the music stops halfway through. There doesn't seem to be any speech recorded for the characters. At least half of the textures seem to be very low resolution. To be perfectly honest, everything about it seems unfinished, and half done.

In summary, this just looks like a game that needs at least another year of development to make it anything like playable.

Mind you, all of this could be down to the fact that it's not released for another 18 months.

Me and Gandalf nipped on down to the HMV in mordor to pick this up. Apart from the really rude orc at the till (bloody nippers these days) the game was a laugh. Afterwards we headed on down to pick up GTAV. This is really the best game not out today. COD6 is good too (but IMO COD5 was just as good).

i don't know the guy, but perhaps he's beta testing it? just because it isn't out doesn't mean nobody has played it.

Mind you, his 'review' was a little spartan. I guess that, if he had actually played the game he would have had more to say about it or why bother writing anything?

Either way, I only gave 5 star rating in an because it didn't seem fair that 2 people have given such a low rating to a game that isn't even out yet.

two questions to mr D Downs and anyone else out there who reviews games without actually playing them:
A)do you know the difference between a review and a preview?
B)do you own the game there for putting youself in the position to write about it?

if the answer to both of these questions is no (and it probably is) then please dont write a preview that alters the perceptions of people pre ordering the game. while this game might well be great it could also be a blight upon gods green earth, you just dont know, so until you can answer yes to both of the above questions keep comments on up coming games to yourself!
