Amazon.co.uk Review More often than not, when a game is in development for over three years it does not live up to the hype. Bungie's Halo is the exception. Not only does the game live up to the hype--it greatly exceeds it. This sci-fi first-person shooter is a nearly perfect blend of gameplay, graphics, and sound. The story revolves around the conflict between humans and an alien race known as the Covenant. The aliens have discovered a powerful artefact--on the ring-shaped planet called Halo--that will shift the balance of power and it's up to the player to stop them. In addition to several first-person shooter levels there are numerous opportunities to engage in vehicular combat. Both the enemy and ally artificial intelligence are extremely impressive. Enemies will use the terrain and layout to put you in tight spots. Allies will know when to cover and aid you. For instance, if you hop into a jeep an ally will know to jump in and man the turret on the back of it. Graphics are exquisitely detailed, but only move at 30 frames per second rather than 60. The sound effects and voice-acting are superb. The level design is among the best ever; most of the game is engaging and challenging without being frustrating. There's also high replay value thanks to the built-in single-player, cooperative, and death match modes. Much like the outstanding GoldenEye 007 for Nintendo 64, Halo raises the bar for console first-person shooters. It will be the title that all console action games are measured against for years to come.--Raymond M Padilla

Alright Campaign, HILARIOUS.QUALITY.MULTIPLAYER February 22, 2008 Lets start with the single player eh, s'alright.. some introduction to controls, weapons, vehicles and gameplay. Some pretty epic moments, like the end of the level "The Maw" and "two betrayals" is pretty much ALL epic.. "The Library" - probably the worst level created. Shame theres some maps looped, or just reversed. BUT the system link is bloody amazing, 50 kills AINT ENOUGH IN A LAN. Capture the flag can be just too epic and some slayer on sidewinder and the ORIGINAL MAP BLOODGULCH.
If you got a lotta mates who have a lotta space in their house, and 2-4 xbox's an tv's, AND a bunch of crossover cables, AND copies of halo, THEN youve got the recipe for a quality meal of multiplayer gaming. You'll laugh, shout, argue and cry if youre crap, and at the end of games youll find yourself congregating with your chums for ages on whether or not your corpse deserved to get wacked and grenade'd, if it was a headshot or not, DID YOU SEE HIS VISOR FLY OFF??, who got pistol whipped, whos a rocket hog, how'd they get out the map. THEN one of youre mates would get a modded xbox, and make the warthog pink, shotgun fire about 9 rockets, throw master cheifs and sniper bullets instead of grenades and turn vehicles into skulls and so on. GOT FRIENDS? GET HALO. NO FRIENDS? UNLUCKY.
Simply perfection January 7, 2008 This game redifined shooters when it came out and quickly got a huge following. A great game. If you like action, interesting storylines and great multiplayer experiences (for offline play) buy this game.

One of My Favorate games even after 6 years September 27, 2007 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I'm writing this review just after the release of Halo 3.It made me realise that how old the origanal is so I went back to see if it has lost any of its greatness. In a word.It hasent. The story is still one of the best none of the weirdness of the other two and the gameplay is very enjoyable. The enemies arnt just blobs that you shoot with a big gun. Each enemy type has characteristics suchas the grunts (small stupid creatures) will run away if alone but if an elite is with them they will fight. The graphics have lost a bit of WOW since it was reaised but te atnosphere is still there E.G if you look up outside you will see the halo loop round and see some stars aswell.Finaly the marines on your side dont run around in cicles waiting to be shot they do actully help in battles and somtimes you can actully die without the help of them.If you do not own this or leave it in your closet, get it out/buy it and see how the halo greatness begain
A great game but nothing more June 7, 2007 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
Chances are if you're reading this review you've already heard a lot about Halo, you've either played it and want to know what other people think or thinking about catching up with the series before Halo 3. People will tell you that Halo is the greatest game ever made and it's easy enough to see where they're coming from; Halo is a very fun, very clever, great looking for the time first-person shooter. It's also one of the first FPS for the console market to be playable and well designed. However, please be aware that Halo received rave reiews primarily on the fact that it was the best FPS on a console at the time. Veterans of PC shooter should be more cautious, Halo has nothing on PC shooter classics such as Alien Vs. Predator 2 or the Quake series.
Halo does have some unique strengths, the AI with both the enemies and the allied marines is very good and was excellent for the time of release. The marines really do feel to be on your side and this is crucial. My favourite strength is the plot, this game has a nice little story to it heavily supported by the scenery, when playing the game simply look up when outdoors to see what I mean.
It also has some flaws that are often overlooked but need mentioning. The game contains a very large chapter in which you are required to work your way underground through a facility in which every room, corridor and level is designed very similarily. There is only one way to progress, there are no surprises and it amounts to a very long, dull section of the game. Furthermore, upon completing the objective at the end of this trail you are required to travel back up again. There is a distinct feeling of padding out the game. Another flaw, in my opinion, is often written up as a strength. The vehicle sections of the game are intrusive and obnoxious. Sure, the warthog is fun at first and usually optional but it can also be a pain to control and a nuisance. More irritatingly, the tank later in the game is slow, dull and necessary. I would have preferred a larger shooter level, to be honest.
Halo is a great game, if you like FPSs then you'll probably enjoy it just don't expect perfection.
