5 out of 5 stars Love Dexter - Compulsive Viewing!   June 13, 2008
Quite simply one of the best things to hit our televisions since The Sopranos. Michael C. Hall is superb as Dexter; the cast is strong with very good performances all round and the story line takes you seamlessly from one episode to the next. You should read to book too, different from the series but hugely entertaining. Both are treats not to be missed.

5 out of 5 stars EXTRAORDINARY,EXTREMELLY ADDICTIVE MASTERPIECE   June 9, 2008
For over a week together with my wife we lived Dexter morgan's life.We have watched both series 1 and 2 and so far this is the best Tv series you can imagine. Witty, funny, scary and unpredictable which is so different for American tv series, highly recommended but watch out-we had to take day off work to watch the remaining episodes it was so addictive!!! Never thought you might really like serial killer and do not want him to be caught or discovered.
FANTASTIC!!!

5 out of 5 stars Darkly dreaming about Dexter   June 3, 2008
Dexter is your run of the mill cop drama. A killer is loose in Miami, and their finest are on the case. Which is great, until we find out one of their own is another killer. Meet Dexter, the friendliest serial killer you'll ever meet. Then it becomes that much more interesting.

Dexter is incredibly charming in it's appearance. One moment can see bloodshed and horror, the next can be poking fun at that exact scene with a quirky one-liner. The writing is superb, the characters are completely loveable, and the season's plot leaves you hanging for the next episode without feeling sluggish and empty.

To put it short, Dexter is the best TV show we've received from America in a long time. It clocks in at a short 12 episode season, but every episode is crammed with material. Trust me when I say you will be another of dear Dexter's fans if you start to watch this show.

This series is every bit as good as previous reviewers say.

Hero or anti-hero, Dexter is a wonderfully compelling, complex character. And good as Michael Hall is as Dexter, his supporting cast are magnificent too.

What keeps the viewer's interest from Episode 1 right through to Episode 12 is that this isn't just a regular crime 'puzzle' with body parts thrown in for cheap thrills. Dexter's evolving psychology is always centre-stage.

My only quibble about this box set are the extras - or rather the lack of. In contrast to the US set, the only extras included here are audio commentaries on Episodes 6 and 12.

We can only hope that the makers are less mean-spirited when it comes to the Series 2 set.

I love, love, love this DVD! I got into the TV series about 3 episodes in and became instantly addicted. Wednesday nights were never better!

From the opening credits you know that the show is going to be a good one - it's so cleverly done. This sets the tone for the whole series which is brilliantly written. I'm sure most will know the plot by now, but just incase........Dexter is a 30-something forensic scientist (he analyses blood spatters for the Miami PD). His sister, Deb, is also a cop with the MPD who is on her first big case, tracking down the "Ice Truck Killer" who is a serial killer who drains his victims of blood and chops them up. Nice. Dexter, however, not only helps the police track down serial killers but he also dabbles in the odd bit of murder himself. Through a series of flashbacks during the series we learn that Dexter was adeopted by Harry (a cop, and also Deb's Dad) and that Harry recognised from a very early age that Dexter was showing signs of becoming a killer (murdering small animals, that sort of thing) so he taught him to channel it in the right way - i.e. killing those who evade the law.

I have now watched the whole series on DVD, having missed the first few episodes and it's still as great as it was watching it the first time around. If you haven't seen this yet, be prepared to not be able to stop watching at the end of an episode. It's like a book, when you get to the end of the chapter and you can't put it down cos you just have to know what's going to happen next.

Highly recommended for being very cleverly written and different to all the other stuff. Hope you enjoy.
