Great remastering February 21, 2006 16 out of 16 found this review helpful
In terms of sound, this is probably the closest you get to a true Cuban cafe somewhere in Cienfuegos. As many of you may know the songs on this DVD-A already, I will limit my comment to the sound quality. It's simply superb! If you own the film on DVD (in DD 5.1) already and have a DVD-A player at home, don't hesitate! It's better sound quality and the songs are not interrupted. Remix well done Mr. Cooder!
Pure Latin August 21, 2005 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
Cannot recommend this CD too highly. Bought it after watching the TV programme. Return to play it time and time again and never tire of listening to all the fantastic artists who I think are the hight of COOL. Every track is brilliant and leaves you wanting to hear more of each and every one of them.
Pure magic! December 26, 2004 29 out of 29 found this review helpful
If you love music you'll adore this masterpiece. Hauntingly beautiful from start to finish it's melodic, intoxicating, sensual latin rythms will transport you to a place and time that only true passion can. Shut your eyes and open your mind to something truly extraordinary that you rarely come across, perhaps once or twice in a lifetime of music. I love music in all it's shapes and forms but this recording of real musicians creating something magical will outlive anything you've heard before. This music is beyond mere ratings, it is immensely powerful, passionate and of a beauty indescribeable. Once played never forgotten.
Amazingly refreshing December 4, 2004 15 out of 18 found this review helpful
I first heard this music in Sweden at a party and it was the first time I have ever seen a party come to a halt. Even the people who were talking loudly hushed to take on board the uniqueness of the sound. It is without doubt the best album of its type to have been released since the 1970's. The raw sounds mixed with the often the non-well known or understood Cuban culture is an eye opener for Western listeners. I challenge an educated listener not to have these songs ringing in your ears for monts after you first listen. Music is the drug of the modern masses. Play on and lets get high on the rhythm!

This album continually reminds me of summer days.... hot tarmac under foot and bare footed old men playing the guitar in Cuba..... This is an album that will never stop bringing a smile to my face, it can make you dance or relax but either way you will always feel the heat radiate from this fine collection of beautifully played music. The talent is over-whelming. a must have for everybody with any musical interest whether you like rock, r and b, blues, folk to panpipes.
