Glossy Disappointment June 16, 2008 1 out of 5 found this review helpful
Having downloaded the demo I was really looking forward to this game. It does have some great features such as the crash damage, instant replay and the day into night into day experience of Le Mans. It also has to be said that the graphics are amazing, particularly in hi def.
However, having now bought it the game has too many frustrations to be a truly great game. If you are beginner forget it. Driving off line is too unforgiving, put one wheel on the grass and watch the rest of the field disappear off into the distance while you spin uncontrollably in a cloud of smoke. Even in basic mode the handling of the cars is very tricky.
The drift races are almost impossible to win even in basic mode. Even if you do win its just a means to an end to get more money and reputation points. The drift races are just dull. On the flip side the Pro Togue races are too easy to win so you just drive up or down a hill for a couple of minutes and then back the other way.
Also, the number of tracks are limited and after a while you get bored driving round the same places.
Having played this for many hours now it has to be said that the AI drivers are totally unrealistic. They drive round and round in formation as though on the starting grid until you try to overtake and then they start weaving all over the track. Try racing Le Mans and see how they drive the long staright as a perfect example.
If your an experienced gamer it does offer a good challenge. Anybody else I would wait until its in the bargain bin or pick up a 2nd hand copy.

The perfect racing experience......... June 11, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Thats right, this is the best driving game out there. Forza 2 was good, but this game knocks it out of the park! There is a complete range of cars to drive, ranging from single seater formula 3 cars, to suped-up Mustangs and Skylines. The game works on money won by racing but most of all through reputation points. (seems to get more difficult the higher your reputation)
For years I have been waiting for a racing game to be released that when you crash into the wall, YOU CRASH INTO THE WALL!!. There is no rebound with no damage to just carry on, if you hit the wall (at speed), your race is over and your car is trashed! This feature, for a slightly gung-ho racer like myself, you might say is a bit of a set-back. Cleverly codemasters have thought of this, adding in a 'flashback' mode that lets you rewind the race, until a certain point - this is normally 2-3 secs. Meaning that you can have a second go at taking that corner again, but without crashing. Brilliant! (flashbacks are an auto feature that doesn't happen every time you crash, just when you write off you car, if you use the flashback feature your reputation points will go down)
Another dimension to this game is the team building side, after every race you get offered new sponsorship. This will bring in more money to your team and set up some cool graphics on the car. You have complete control over your team name/colour scheme/graphics and extra drivers.
Your other driver not doing so well? sack him get a new one.
It just seems that from fantastic loading screnes to the in race graphics, codemasters have thought of everything and have produced the slickest racing game ever to be released.
A must have for any racing fan!
Exellent must buy June 9, 2008 codemasters have really outdone themselves this time, realistic damage, brilliant control of vehicles not to mention the range of them. Online good but can get glitchy. This is for hardcore racing fans, if you think its a bad game your probably not good at it.
Best racing game in a long long time. June 9, 2008 The most important thing about GRID is that it is fun to drive. It's somewhere between full simulation and something more arcadey. They've finally managed to address some of my bugbears about racing games.
1. You can't just bash it through the pack and use the other cars to slow yourself down. You can damage your car and your car handles differently as it gets more damaged. 2. The grids can be quite large so you really have to work your way through the field. Since you can't just bash into cars rather than brake before corners you have to pick your passing moves. This is much more rewarding than just steaming in and hoping for the best. 3. The variety of racing styles is huge. Everything from open wheel racers on tracks to demolition derbies. 4. If the computer does clip you and end your race you can flashback to before the crash and avoid it. Given that you can write your car off this gives a great way around any glitches in AI or just making a mistake on the last lap having done the hard work. 5. The restarts are really really fast. They've put a lot of effort into minimising the loading times so you don't sit there watching the loading screen.
On top of all that the menus and everything about the game is very slick. I really didn't expect much from the game but it definitely makes up for the huge disappointment that is GTA IV.
