 All round PC protection July 17, 2008
Like many internet security packages McAfee have allowed this program to be installed on 3 of your home computers which is handy for me as I've got a desktop and a laptop. Like others it installs antivirus and firewall to protect your PC. Installation was a bit long and asked to remove some programs which I had to re-install later which was annoying. It slowed my pc down but not as much as Norton has in the past. All in all a reasonable PC protection.

When I got this & had a look at the reviews I was a bit scared of installing it after reading the handful of negative reviews! However, I steadied my nerves, and although it took a while to install I've had no problems with it yet. I haven't yet had any viruses & the product seems fairly easy to use & navigate, although I still can't see why anyone would pay for this when you can get free products that do the job adequately (such as AVG).

This suite does pretty much what you would expect it to, it's a Virus scanner, firewall and spamkiller; all work well as far as I am aware and are unobtrusive. Installation was easy, ir paused while it requested that I remove AVG virus scanner before continuing installation and then resumed without problems. The only issue I encountered was during the registration where I took five attempts to create a password in the format it required (8-32 characters, no non-alphanumerics but including at least one number) only to be told that the login I was using already existed. Well I couldn't remember having logged on to McAfee before so I requested my password and lo an behold the password it returned didn't comply with the format it was previously requesting (Grrr!). This isn't isolated to McAfee of course but seems to be a general issue with online sites generally.
Anyway, in addition to the stuff listed above it has a site adviser which is useful, and which appears to work - I visited one of the many known dodgy sites to test it - and it has a parental control which is simple to set up and which includes has a very useful Internet time limit function.

McAfee Internet Security Suite has lots of features, such as backup software, but in terms of stopping malware, it leaves a fair bit to be desired. The scanning engine operates slowly, while the program seems unable to clean many files and registry entries implanted by malicious software.
It does, however, come with a decent enough firewall, one which successfully masked a protected PC from attempts to scan it from the outside. And by default, it allows all programs to connect to the internet. If you require the additional protection (but potential annoyance) of blocking unknown programs, it also utilises a list of known applications to minimise pop-up alerts. Other useful extras in McAfee Internet Security Suite include a home network setup app and a full backup program that can schedule regular backups.
Despite a few shortcomings in terms of its reporting and interface, it's - generally speaking - a well-designed suite with some useful features. Having said that, better malware-detection would be a huge plus.
Easy, fast and good value July 10, 2008
I'd say this is a very basic easy security package, you have the option to protect your children from harmful websites and it is very simple to install and easy and have no complaints about the job it does, it works quietly in the background, the only slight downside is it has some incompatibility issues and asks you to remove various things in order to install this which not being a complete computer expert made me wonder if what i had before might have been more protection. But havent noticed any speed issues, it seems to run fine and havent encountered any problems as of yet, it is a good budget package for all the family. Overall though the best security package i have ever come across is kaspersky, id choose that over everything but always open to try new packages and as i said i do recommend this.
