Absolutely brilliant! June 22, 2008 Adobe really is the de facto standard for professionals, and with good reasons. I have been using their software for years and it just gets better with every new release. Sure, it's expensive and sure, it has a steep learning curve for many, but it simply is the best suite of software for creative work available.
Just for the record, installation for me was flawless on vista 64-bit. Also, Adobe provided my key within a matter of hours of me sending off my proof of enrolment to them. What a great service!
no problems so far March 11, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
As you are buying from a resell the form inside the box differs slightly from thoughts you get when you buy direct from adobe. To activate just fill in the form, simple stuff (name address and where you are a student) take a scan of it, then email/fax it along with a copy of both sides of your student card. The quality of the image just needs to be readable, I did it with a camera (don't have a scanner) and you'll be fine, if your worried about the image you can phone them up a hour or so after you sent it and they can tell you if it is ok. Then wait for your serial code to come a few days later, real easy. On the disk inside case it warns not to install before getting your serial, but actually you can install and run it for 30 day trail while you wait for your code. (wish I'd have known that while I was waiting) As for installation I had no problem with it at all, though it did take about 30-45min for the full lot of programs. Unlike what it said on the discussion I was able to install the suite on both my desktop and my laptop. I was surprised by this and thought it would not let me do this, but I have activated both and used the programs on both so I guess it must all be ok, though I have not tested on every single program only Photoshop, Flash and Dreamweaver. To sum up my review I am very happy with this product, the installation and activation was a breeze and I am able to use on both my computers, so all good as far as I can see.
I Wish I'd read the previous review before buying! August 22, 2007 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I really wish I'd read the review by JamesD before buying CS3 Master Collection.
If you look through the Adobe forums you'll find hundreds of threads posted by users experiencing difficulty with installation. Adobe have suggested a series of workrounds on their knowledgebase to aid installation including :- statements to input from the command line, making an image of the install disks on a separate hard drive and installing from there, disabling internet security software, removing other adobe software and even installing on a different PC! I tried all of the these methods. None of them worked.
I have managed to install the elements of CS3 I want by following the method of a forum user. To do this I had to format my hard drive, re-install windows and then install CS3 before updating windows or adding any other software. The decision to do this was easier for me than I suspect it will be for most - fortunately my PC is only 4 days old and I have not yet spent hours installing all of my software.
Had I known that this issue existed I would have waited for Adobe to sort it before buying. I am not sure if I will face similar problems should I wish to install more elements of CS3 in the future.
This is Adobe's flagship software suite and this problem is not limited to the student edition. The very least Adobe can do is issue registered users with patched installation discs for future use.
A mixed bag August 3, 2007 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I recently purchased the Adobe CS3 Master Collection. The major plus is that, with the student edition, you really do get value for money. Full editions of every major Adobe piece of software and more to boot.
However, this was soon tainted by the poor installation. Gaining the serial number for the product was quick enough and the Adobe personnel were very helpful, but I found there to be major flaws in the installation process. Some of the software didn't install correctly. Although this all depends on your particular copy, a glance through the forums on the abobe website show the level of problems users have had with CS3. Needless to say, Adobe may have been a bit premature with this release.
Still, after several calls to tech support, I am now up and running with CS3 and the problems are (hopefully) behind me. So, great value but in hindsight I would probably have waited until the initial bugs and blips were corrected before making my purchase?
