Works without a hitch bar Site Advisor October 8, 2007 I have been using McAfee Internet Security Suite for 2 years now and I have not had the problems described by some reviewers. I am running XP on a Dell PC with 1GB RAM and a 2.8GHz P4 processor and have not noticed performance problems though during update downloads the internet connection speed is obviously slowed for a short period. After the 2007 upgrade (which went smoothly) I did uninstall Site Advisor as it annoyed me a lot by blocking many perfectly safe sites that I use regularly for no apparent reason. Apart from that, I have had to use Tech Support once, which I did via the free Internet Chat option. They were polite, helpful and resolved my problem first time. Anti-virus and firewall software is essential and this product does the job very well IMHO. I will be upgrading to the next version.
Problematic with terrible support October 5, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
When my Norton SystemWorks expired, I decided to try MCAfee TotalProtection since I had had some problems with Norton. Things went well until last night when one of their automatic updates caused my machine to hang up. Tech support, almost impossible to get in touch with, was less than helpful - their only response was to say that they would email me some instructions. 15 hours later still no email. Uninstalling the program solved the problem.
Until McAfee can guarantee that their product will not hang up my machine and cause me to lose a days work and their tech support gets better, I will not be using any of their products.
Not much better than the viruses it trys to protect August 4, 2007 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
I have had this product for a little over 2 months. Since this time I have had to uninstall and then reinstall because of some "software update" that basically corrupts my system. McAfee's response is that you reinstall the product. Not the best way to do it. I have two licenses and two computers which means I get to fix both of them, reconfigure the firewalls, etc.
The latest update happened last night where an upgrade was automatically installed which basically forced my two machines to reboot. Then I get to install some program off the McAfee website that basically strips my hard drive clean of any traces of the corrupt antivirus software so that I can reinstall.
So, if you enjoy spending 3 hours of your life that you will never get back... go ahead and buy the product
Steer clear of this one! June 20, 2007 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
After 2 days and 6 hours on line with the technical help team, I was still unable to run the latest version of Mcafee privacy service and access the internet.
To start with you can not install the virus scanner if you have Ad-Aware installed (killing off the competition). Removing ad-aware was not easy as it involved editing the registry to remove every last trace of it before McAfee was happy.
Finally all installed and all was well for 10 minutes. Everything worked until Mcafee searched for updates and updated Privacy Service. For some reason this latest update blocks Internet Explorer and Outlook from accessing the internet. Messenger still works, so it is not a connection problem. Tech support got me to try 6 hours worth of fixes (with more reinstalls and downloads than I want to remember), without being able to solve the problem.
Their final solution was to pay yet more money to allow one of their people to remotely access my computer.
I have had it with McAfee (they have never been trouble free).
Very Annoyed June 17, 2007 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought the McAffee 2007 Security Suite from Amazon for the third year running in January, expecting the usual operation. No problems after installing onto my old Windows XP machine, but a hardware breakdown caused me to buy a new Acer T180 desktop with Vista pre-installed in February. I opted not to install the free 3 month trial of Norton and installed McAffee from my disk. This screwed up the system and would not allow entry into vista. I had no alternative but to re-install Vista and all my software. This time I installed Norton and had no further problems... until my free trail ran out. After uninstalling Norton I installed McAffee again, not believing they could release something so unsteady. Wrong! McAffee still screwed my system up. I finally fixed it by starting in safe mode and downloading a patch that was well hidden on the McAffee website. I'm now running it and putting up with the occasional incompatibility error message until next January when I will buy Norton.
